Mtn. Biking 51:41 [2] 5.13 km (10:04 / km) +61m 9:30 / km

A tour of Gay City with the gang. Gay City is a good place to start out offspring. However, it seems that a few more outings and Merick might be able to take on Birch Mountain.

My navigation was much less than satisfactory today.

I saw what I think may have been an Eastern Rat Snake at control 11 out sunning himself on the rock. We both weren't very happy about being in each others personal space. I realize now that it is not venomous. I am pretty sure I have never come across a rattle snake in my time in Connecticut woods.

Orienteering 50:00 [2]
shoes: Salomon Spikecross 3

A shadowing to warm up. It is challenging to instill good habits in young Padawans. They just want to run.

Orienteering race 1:16:01 [3] *** 6.0 km (12:40 / km)
spiked:14/16c shoes: Salomon Spikecross 3

I forgot my watch today, so the distance is likely short. I felt better able to run this week, maybe because of cooler temperatures.

I overran control 4 a bit. Later, I turned the wrong direction en route to 7 but quickly realized I should not be going up so much elevation and turned back to get the control. I didn't see the boulder on the map close to the circle for 8 so I hesitated a bit and thought I went too far right of the control, but then came into it just fine. No other mistakes for the rest of the course.

Misha crushed it though.

I finally had time to do something. Too bad I missed West Point. It is a great weekend for that.
