Orienteering race 18:04 [5] 2.6 km (6:57 / km)

Setup Race @ Bryne Creek: I was suprised at my result after the race. I was pretty clean, but not super fast. I ran about 1.5mi to warmup before the race so that helped me shake out the legs and get them ready to race. I'm guessing some people weren't quite ready to roll after the big day before. I was a little slow to 1 and 2 but after that had a pretty clean run. I stayed high and went around to #8 since it hurts my knee to go down the steep stuff. I'm not sure if that was faster or not? From 10 to 11 I could have been more direct, but other than that it was a good run and got me into the Chase.

Orienteering race 19:09 [5] 2.6 km (7:22 / km)

Chase Race @ Deer Lake: Super fun race on another great map (This was my favorite of the weekend). I had the fortune of starting the chase with a couple of the young speedsters. As a result I was working hard to stay with them for the first 5 or so controls. After that I had to dial the pace back a bit and let them go. I ran very clean and then Nikolay caught me at 15. At the start of the butterfly, a few others had caught up as a result of my butterfly hesitations (looking back I should have read ahead to my butterfly loops much earlier in the race). I had the upper loop first and then the lower. As I was taking the first two controls on the lower loop I scouted the final two controls on that loop so I knew exactly where to punch without looking at the map. It was a hard uphill race to the finish but I was able to hold my 19th position from the setup. Good weekend!

Orienteering race 19:40 [5] 2.6 km (7:34 / km)

Mundy Park Race: Was note quite awake for this one and it was my worst result of the weekend, but I still recovered pretty quickly from my errors. Chose to go around the creek to 4 instead of direct and then got confused at 5 with the multiple bridges. After that I settled in. I had another mistake on 18 trying to get on the correct trail in the woods. Overall winsplits estimated ~2:30 error. Good course, lots of direction changes.

Orienteering 25:00 [3] 3.0 km (8:20 / km)

Dogbones training excercise (Time is an estimate). Ran this training with CJ. I like the training concept think it is very useful for planning and reading ahead. I may have to set up one of these for the high schoolers since they are so familier with the HS map.

Orienteering race 4:52 [5] 1.0 km (4:52 / km)

Sprint Relay at Blue Mtn: First loop with mass start. Got a bit bottlenecked at the first control, but then was able to run hard for the second half of the loop.

Orienteering race 4:43 [5] 1.0 km (4:43 / km)

Second loop of the relay. Felt good, no problems.

Orienteering 40:00 [3] 5.0 km (8:00 / km)

Otervals training @ Lougheed North: This was a fun map with lots of detail. Ran most of these at medium pace since I was getting tired.

Orienteering race 16:27 [5] 2.3 km (7:09 / km)

Farsta @ Hume Park: I had a good start and didn't get too bottlenecked at my first punch. I settled in pretty good and then had a mistake starting my 3rd loop. Katrina and I had the exact same forking so we ended up running together for a good portion of the race. This format is pretty fun.

Friday Feb 7, 2014 #

Orienteering 14:08 [3] 2.1 km (6:44 / km)

Practice course. Ran a nice easy warmup and felt good to be running on a map in the sun.

Orienteering race 15:14 [5] 2.4 km (6:21 / km)

Coal Harbour Race #1 of many: I had a pretty clean run and it was a pretty cool map. I was pretty satisfied with most of my route choices. Only had a small hesitation on the second to last control (~20 sec).
