Orienteering race (MetroLeague) 50:58 [5] ** 7.16 km (7:07 / km) +94m 6:41 / km

First MetroLeague of the year at Cecil Hills shooting centre. Hesitant start to 1, then took the shortcut across the grass to 2 which was a mistake. The grass just got longer and longer and couldn't maintain running with high knees for that long! After that, realised it was faster to run a little further and stay on the tracks. No real mistakes, found the nav pretty straight forward, probably because I was staying on tracks so much. Just found it physically tiring - running 8km the afternoon before didn't help. Very hot, had a massive drink at the end! Before going home, got 12yo Duncan Currie to teach me how to use OCAD better!

Running race 35:03 [5] 8.28 km (4:14 / km)
ahr:178 max:183

First race of the West Met cross country season at Doonside across the road from the athletics track. Flat course but gravel under foot made each step a bit of extra work. Also very hot! Wanted to slow down in the 30 metres of shade either side of the 1km turn around each lap! Normally I fade pretty badly in the heat so I was really pleased to maintain my pace. 1km splits: 3.56/4.08/18/15/19/20/13/20. Needed an urgent Calippo to recuperate! Headed out to UWS Kingswood after to check my courses for MetroLeague setting.

Hockey 1:30:00 [1]

First hockey training of the season at Pennant Hills. Not too many turned up but it was good fun. A few familiar faces from last year and lots of new ones. Was glad to see that I remembered a few things from last year! Passing, trapping, passing on the run and a 'volleyball game' at the end which was a bit mystifying! Very rusty on dribbling and dragging.

Orienteering race (Summer Series) 44:03 [4] 8.85 km (4:59 / km) +63m 4:48 / km
ahr:178 max:185

Summer Series final - Macquarie uni. It came down to the last event to decide who would win Open Women overall out of me and Gill. I had 13x100s and Gill had 12x100s. So I had to win or equal with Gill to come first overall, but if Gill won she would come first (as Duncan Currie told us both enthusiastically as we picked up our maps!!).
The map was such a puzzle with no obvious route. l did an S shape loop through the uni (loved the section going through the buildings - felt like a mini sprint!). Then out through the Riding for the Disabled, then through the streets through 19, 9 and 18. Coming over the M2 I was working out if I had time to add in 11 on the other side of the oval. But I had about 1:30 after exiting 12 so just headed to the finish almost 1 minute early.
Gill and I both ended up on 530 points with different routes so we tied and I got the overall win!

Running intervals 43:00 [4] 6.0 km (7:10 / km) +106m 6:35 / km

6 x 250m intervals at Queens Park - across the oval and up a little hill at the end. Felt pretty tired so only did 6 - planned to do 8. Then jogged to Bondi Junction to Rebel to get a mouth guard for hockey and back to work. Saw one of my students in Westfields.
