Pakim Pond - long distance

Was running with Brad Hutchison from controls 6 to 13 (although we usually took different routes) which helped to keep the pace going. But we both messed up 13 (perhaps 90 seconds for me), and he got away. Apart from 13, I had no trouble with any controls, but I didn't feel as clear as yesterday.

On my way to the 19th control my left calf started hurting. I did a bit of walking over the next few controls, particularly on the way to 24 by which time the calf was really sore. The 24th control was just near the finish, and there were still 2.5 km to go. I was seriously contemplating a DNF, when Brad came past. This motivated me to keep going.

So at least I got an official time, but I've aggravated my calf. Moral of the story is not to enter the blue course when you're nursing an injury.

This was a really well-organized event, with good terrain and maps. My one slight quibble with the organization was the finish in the middle of nowhere on Day 2. I couldn't figure out where results were being posted that day, so I just went home.
