Roller derby practice got moved to the kids' gymnastics room since it was raining so much. Would've liked a faster pace of things, but people didn't seem to like running and didn't seem to like long sets of strength. Not sure how much we actually did!

Foot was ok when I woke up, but taped anyway. Initial tape job was too dramatic, so took away the spacer for my toes and just used tape instead. (Probably wasn't actually doing much.) Successfully walked to/from the bus stop with my heavy bags and did lots of barefoot stuff without any pain, so I feel super lucky! The last few times I've had pain like I did yesterday, it lasted multiple days for just putting any sort of weight on it and longer to get to any kind of running or jumping. Maybe I'm getting better at treating it? There were a few moments throughout the day today where I noticed a bit of discomfort, but I wouldn't call it pain, and it didn't seem localized to where the problematic nerve is supposed to be. So doesn't seem too worrisome! If it gets through roller derby hell week okay, I'll gradually add some running back in and see what happens.

Other note: don't feel fatigued at all, but coughing up lots of congestion, and throat is sore from that. Plus stuffy/runny nose. Also fitness tracker says my lowest night HR for the last 3 nights has been like 10 bpm above what it was for the previous week or so, maybe just bc I've been sleeping worse. Not sure.

Very fun weekend at Anza-Borrego! Lots of old friends, met some SDO people, and even met another WashU alum!

Saturday was an exciting day of orienteering, then managed to wake up injured on Sunday (recurring foot nerve injury), but the weather and desert were so beautiful it was just like going on a day of sight-seeing. Not my plan, but still fun :)

Might eventually do a more detailed write-up, but for now relaxing and drinking Trader Joe's blood orange soda!

The Ewe at Anza-Borrego. Yay I can still read a map! Rick and Ryan Breseman caught up to me on a slippery downhill, held them off for awhile, but then I made some bad micro-routes/stopped to try to pull out a cholla (unsuccessfully). Abandoned the cholla extraction since it didn't really hurt to leave it there, stayed ahead of Ryan for lots of the race, but his strategy of running in washes instead of on spurs seemed to be better than my spur-running plans (or else he was just faster). Gained on Ryan and briefly passed him on the downhill into the finish, but he out-kicked me. At the time I was disappointed, but Kelsey said he was lying on the ground for 10 minutes afterwards, so that made me feel a bit better.

Note: listed distance for the course was 4.9k.

Control-pick designed by Erin. Very fun!!! Felt more technical than the morning, which was good for my out-of-shape-ness. Goal was focus on direction.

No streamers, so tried to stay in close contact. Straight-line distance was 3.7 km.

Wore newer (narrower) Inov-8's because my wider ones didn't feel like they had enough traction during the morning event.

Poker O'! Accidentally disqualified myself by taking too many cards... :(

Can't remember which shoes I wore, but I suspect it was the newer ones, which was probably a mistake...

Wasn't feeling great but wanted to get my legs moving and wanted to take advantage of the SD weather again!

Flew back this morning, partly unpacked, laundry, run, errands. Looking forward to being back at lab tomorrow!
