Note
(injured) (rest day)

Ankle felt better today, swelling continues to go down, now it just hurts on a few muscles on the front and outside of my anklebone. Felt good enough walking on even ground that I taped it up and was planning on running. It hurt when I got onto uneven ground and when I jogged downhill on asphalt, so I didn't walk or jog the model event. Erin did an arnica massage, and I had some ibuprofen.

The atmosphere at the model was awesome!!! Everyone was in a good mood, and the terrain is feeling more familiar and friendly:)

Note
(rest day)

First time ankle is less swollen the morning after getting injured. Woohoo! (Also, I'm not counting this as an injury yet, because today was a scheduled rest day.) Wasn't sure I'd be able to drive people to HK and also drive the car back, but I ended up being 100% ok for driving. Annnnnd, the car wouldn't start after parking at the hotel, so I didn't have to drive it back to the airport. Annnnnnd, since I didn't have to drive the car back to the airport, I got to go see Superman with the rest of the team! I liked how the movie focused on Superman's human-ness, like with the shaky cameras in the scene where he was learning to fly. Fun:)

training at the cool rocky place. It didn't go that well, although I was good at starting each leg fresh.

Running (mostly hard surfaces) 30:00 [3] 3.16 mi (9:30 / mi)
(injured)

Finally found the nature trail Addison was trying to give me directions to!!!

First I ran to the 2 trails I tried last time, because I thought his more specific directions would help. The first one was a dead end, so I tried the second one. It was sort of close to someone's back yard, and an un-fenced, barking dog chased after me. Then, I realized it was a dead end, so I had to run back by the scary dog. Then, I realized it wasn't actually a dead end, but there was a huge dog at the end of it as well. I considered cutting down through the woods, but that would put me at the back of someone's property, with the potential for more barking dogs. So the small dog won out against the bigger one, and I tip-toed back down the way I'd come. The owner must've put him back inside, because I got by safely this time:)

So then I started to head back, and then I saw a flat area in the contours in the woods to my left! I climbed up, and there was a little trail! Hooray!

Then, about 2 minutes later, I fell and twisted my ankle:( It really really really hurt for the first two minutes, and then I got scared I wouldn't be able to get back, so I tried standing up. Then I got more scared when I got up too fast and had trouble seeing, but then I started walking and could see better. Whew! I got back and got some ice and had some ibuprofen, and Erin did an arnica massage and gave me some internal arnica. At that point, I could walk normally on flat floors, and it felt a lot, lot better than when I first hurt it.

Triceps, upper back, and shoulders sore from Erin's conditioning. We did burpees. The easy run felt nice.

Corridor O'! Did a pretty good job. Was never out of the corridor, although there were times when I was uncertain because of distinct features I could see that were outside the corridor.

Running (mostly hard surfaces) 6:00 [3] 0.6 mi (10:00 / mi)

Shadowing Anne!!! We talked about compass technique and also keeping in contact with the map while on a compass bearing. She got really automatic with it by the end.

orienteering 36:03 [2] *** 3.33 km (10:50 / km)

Setting out controls, then realized they were already taped. Did, however, discover a huuuuuuge logging trail that wasn't mapped.
5 PM

Running (mostly hard surfaces) (Track workout!!!!!) 9:19 [4] 1.66 mi (5:37 / mi)
shoes: New Mizuno wave riders

Second time on the track in the past seven days :D
It was really nice running weather, and the track was right next door, and my legs felt really fresh, so I went to do another track workout. Erin's first reaction to my plan was that I was being hedonistic and short-sighted, but I explained that I was only doing something short and that I'd thought about how it fit into my weekly plan, and he agreed that it probably wouldn't kill me.

Same workout as last week:

200: 44 (1:22)
300: 1:04 (1:12)
400: 1:25 (1:28)
800: 2:58 (1:34)
400: 1:25 (1:13)
300: 1:03 (1:29)
200: 40

I was pushing a lot harder than last week, but only the 200's and 300's felt more difficult. My stride felt rough and unnatural on those, probably because I haven't done anything that fast in a year and a half. But that's good, because it means I get free improvement! The second two were a lot better than the first two.

And I got through 17 armchair controls on my rest and cooldown. I'll finish the rest of them tonight and update my google doc:)

Running (mostly hard surfaces) 3:00 [4] 0.39 mi (7:40 / mi)
shoes: New Mizuno wave riders

Extended run!!! It was chilly, so I went on the longer side.

Running (mostly hard surfaces) warm up/down 28:59 [2] 3.05 mi (9:30 / mi)
shoes: New Mizuno wave riders

Feeling good on my warmup!
