Great end to the weekend. Raced an entire brown course, and it went well!
I was happy with myself for adapting to the vegetation and gullies while I was on the course, having a good rhythm in and out of controls, and staying in constant contact. Even through the flat green areas, I had a precise compass bearing and a pace count, and I knew what I was looking for. Also, a training Erin set up at Harriman helped me run confidently through a bunch of green to 5 and use the reentrants behind it to find the control. In the past I've had a tendency to ignore everything past the control circle and also to run more slowly when I'm not confident, even when more looks at the map wouldn't help. So it felt really good to do it right!
The only things I could have done better were to run faster, set my compass while running, be more confident running into the control circle, and not stop to look at the map before leaving #4. I lost maybe 10 seconds after 4, a few seconds on a few controls for hesitation, and about 20 seconds total fiddling with my compass while running.
It felt good physically too! I wasn't running incredibly fast, but I felt like I was racing, and I was able to keep up a steady pace over the entire course.
