I have bike cleats now, found the hills much easier !

Rogaine - MTB race (ACT 6 hr cycle rogaine) 5:40:00 [3] *** 40.0 km (8:30 / km) +750m 7:46 / km

Went for a ride with a mate (Andrew) who has started riding (but never mountain biked)
put some offroad tyres on my hybrid bike and borrowed a MTB from my brother in-law

we started 10 mins late, decided to start with the bigger roads, swapped biked after 30 mins as each of us preferred the other one ..

spent a bit of time making a map board that swivelled, unfortunately after the bike change I was just using a plain old clipboard :(

Andrew lost his compass he attached to the clipboard, I brought a spare (new thumb compass)
I then lost my spare compass on same clipboard but we went back almost 2km and found it. this time I secured it properly

found most of the controls ok, 2 were a little hidden and took us a while, would have preferred the controls closer to the tracks as we spent a long time off the bike .
one control was 300 m from the track consisted of 25 minutes of walking, 19 minutes to find it by following the watercourse - which was full of fallen pine trees and thick undergrowth, 6 min to walk back around the thick stuff

overall it was a good workout, I think I would have fund it much better to run though.
