Orienteering race (Metro 4) 47:47 [4] 7.01 km (6:49 / km) +178m 6:03 / km
shoes: Inov-8 Mudclaw 333

Ran off map towards #1 losing 1.5-2 mins
tried to cut corner to #13 but grabbed a track going near the oval at the finish, so lost probably 1min there

the rest was just me being slow .. probably went a little too hard for the first 4 and didn't have much when it came to the hills 5-9, kinda cruised after that.

running race (Paddy Pallin) 5:55:00 [5] *** 30.12 km (11:47 / km) +700m 10:34 / km
ahr:129 max:162 shoes: Inov-8 Mudclaw 333

Paddy Pallin With James and Aran
plan to start with 22/23/24 to get a feel for the map, a mistake on 22 going up the northern watercourse was not part of that plan.
22-23 was road an fast, 23-24 we went high and it was slow.

over to 81 and track to 54 .. our first real running leg and I was more running than navigating so we decided to play it safe and go to the track junction (1 hr and 4k elapsed) for 54

missed 30 - took what we thought was the track, then after 30 minutes found the track down towards 55 so went there instead, hit the fire trail at 2hrs and 6.4k

63 then 100 at the 1/2 way mark and 12k

61 50 and almost to 40 at 4 hrs and 17k

90 and almost to 48 in 5 hrs and 23k

21, 47, 36, 72 and 38 to finish it off for 30k

1st hr 140pts and 4k
2nd hr 100pts and 2.4k
3rd hr 160pts and 5.6k
4th hr 110pts and 5k
5th hr 130pts and 6k
6th hr (well the last 50 mins) 230pts and 7k

will display in routegadget or quickroute later...

Orienteering race (QBIII - mid) 50:45 [4] 6.18 km (8:13 / km) +87m 7:40 / km
ahr:154 max:169 shoes: Inov-8 Mudclaw 333

Hit #1 ok cutting some corners through tracks, but came across girl on the easy/very easy course on the track junction who was in tears, she didn't know where she was or which direction to go, now I realise you are not supposed to help anyone on the course but there is no way I was going to do nothing! so I pointed her in the right direction and gave her some words of encouragement.
this left me a little distracted so I played it safe to hit the rockline and turn left

#4 veered left, hit some rock detail and got a little confused decided I had not gone far enough so I would keep going. hit gully with cliff and termite mound losing about 20-30 seconds of second guessing.

#5 and 6 seem familiar from last year,
#7 went high to get some cleaner running

#10 veered left on purpose from the large track but veered too far, found the other mound, should have taken a bearing from the nearer track.

was happy with navigation, but felt like I was very slow running.

Orienteering race (QBIII - long) 1:32:26 [5] 12.3 km (7:31 / km) +230m 6:52 / km
ahr:154 max:172 shoes: Inov-8 Mudclaw 333

splits indicate I lost time at
3 (ran past the second clearing - they seemed to join then over corrected and didn't see the control on the first pass. relocated to track when I realised I had gone too far)
5 (took the right side of the cliff, it looked yellow but I climbed an extra 2 contours, left would have been better, went past the control location but didn't see it, a case where it was more visible further from the control as it didn't occur to me to look 5m above)
7 (was searching for control but then it occurred to me that it was on the bare rock, and I was not searching the rock .. has some people near me from 6 which may have distracted me)
11 (took the track, no mistake, but perhaps could have hit the control in a more direct line in the last bit.)
15 (started to go N but saw a decent "track" to get me out of the fallen timber, so took the left track option which was slow, no nav error but i guess it would have been quicker going N from the control rather than W)

was happy with run apart from #3, a few people within 5 mins but way down on the standings

running race (Nosh 2013) 1:35:00 [5] 15.67 km (6:04 / km) +260m 5:36 / km
ahr:164 max:173 shoes: Inov-8 Mudclaw 333

started out slower than last time
http://www.attackpoint.org/viewlog.jsp/user_10513/...
knowing I went out too hard. probably went a tiny bit too slow this time.

was hoping to beat last years time, even know it was longer + wetter this year.

Was held up at the fist hill, everyone walking (1.36km in 6:37 - last year 5:48)
started to get cold and windy in some parts of this area.
Got to the Warringah Rd bridge, feeling better than last time, but keeping a good pace (5.14km 28:00 last year 26:04)
Hit the spot where the course changed and was feeling good, last year I think I was just holding on (8.23km in 45:51 - last year 43.22)
Did the new loop of 2.04 k in 15.37, was held up by slow people on the trails, old loop was 1.24 in 9:55, managed to jump over the waist deep rapids so didn't need to wade, but had to wait for the 4 people in front.

started to feel a niggle in my right hammie, eased off for a minute, was ok..

finished off trying to push home a little faster on the open fire trails, but couldn't get any closer to people in front, got overtaken just before the singe trail at the end. was held up a little by this person that just over took me, he wasn't slow enough for me to overtake though :( we did pass 2-3 people on the trail together. at 300 m to go I tried to push him a little, I felt like I wanted to go a little faster, he let me pass so I sprinted (it felt more like a really fast hobble) to the end.

Overall I was 5 1/2 mins slower than last time, but felt much better. when taking out the uncommon section it was a comparable time in more difficult conditions, the last 4.5km I was 4 mins quicker.

Really wanted to run back .. but didn't want to face the traffic on the single trail, and was soaked, when I started to shiver I decided a lift back to my car was a better option.

Would like to try a dry nosh, but at the same time the rain makes it much more fun and challenging!

Also found that from 66 people that did it last year, only 4 managed a better time (there may be more but I only matched exact names) and an average of 11% worse time. so I guess a 6% increase is acceptable ..
