Another kak night of lacking sleep with project stuff, but didn't want to miss this.
Really cool to be running on this map again, so much fun dodging thorn bushes and running with the odd wildebeest/giraffe etc.
Actual run was fairly poor, forgot how to navigate as soon as it got a bit technical/didnt have any handrails.
#1 (2min) bit too excited and took a bad bearing, ending up in the depression to the west, but somehow not quite realising it was that.. ran off to the open area to get a definite idea of where I was, but map still wasn't quite making sense to me with the distinction between open and rough open. Eventually bumbled my way to it..
#2-6 okay, just a bit hesitant and not quite hitting things straight on.
#7 (4min..) Planned to use the path in the middle section, but was a little off to the left and decided I could just run straight and I'd hit it fine.. then somehow decided I needed to be way closer to the koppie and headed too far right before running to the path junction to relocate. Then just missed it 2nd time around and didn't notice the path at all, so ran to the significant tree and then finally got it 3rd time around..
#8 Bit of a a zig zag, but okayish..
#10 got stuck in some bushy and lost 30ish secs
#11-13 okay, but again not hitting things smoothly.
#14 went slightly right of the line and thought I'd be able to zigzag my way around the bushes near the end, but got rather stuck and had to run out right. Minute or so lost.. in hindsight probably should've gone left.
#15-21 finally had a solid section of nav (though nothing to complicated here)
#22. Stopped at the earlier boulders (20ish secs)
#23 (3min) another biggy. Realised it was going to be fairly high on the hippie and started heading up fairly early, but climbed a bit too much and missed it from above. Did a loop and then down to the bare rock to relocate and try again..
#24-32 Fairly solid again, finally getting some flow.
So 10ish min lost across 3 controls which is fairly shocking. The rest I'd take as normal for me. Combination of lack of recent orienteering, lack of sleep and then just not making great decisions
