OK, the HRM on the watch is giving bogus readings. I used to have a chest strap, which I gave up on because it would double-count. It was obvious, because it would jump to twice the rate for a few seconds, then jump down again. This one on the wrist may be double-counting too, but I can't tell because it has a long integration period, somewhere around 10-12 seconds, which implies a lot of smoothing. Anyway, today I spot-checked it and it was way off a few times, reading 172 when my HR was actually 132, for example. But interestingly, it was well-behaved for a lot of the run this time, showing 120-130, which I believe to be correct.
