Bigelow Ridge hike with Addie and Me-An. This is an outstanding hike, in northwest Maine, about 30 miles from the Canadian border. Up the Fire Warden's trail and down the A.T., making a 12.5-mile loop including 4 summits: Avery Peak, West Peak, South Horn, North Horn. The first two are over 4000 feet, and the ascents are long and steep. The ridge is mostly forested, but the area is beautiful and the views from the peaks are really sensational. We made 3 stops about a half-hour each, so 6.5 hours hiking time, which is remarkably fast, probably 3 hours better than guidebook time. The kids were great. They've become strong hikers, and a lot of fun to be with.
