Orienteering race 1:04:00 [4] 5.7 km (11:14 / km) +160m 9:51 / km
shoes: Icebug olx 2nd

FUMA orienteering event: Green. I hear this may be the last time we can use the forest area behind the academy, because of development or something. Too bad, it is good orienteering terrain. There seemed to be less of the nasty pricker stuff than I remember, or maybe the courses didn't go through it this time.

Mostly straightforward navigation by contours and veg. boundaries, but some tricky areas, easy to get a little off course and misread the land features. I did that on the short leg from 7 to 8, and lost about 4 minutes, first looking for the control in the wrong set of reentrants, and then relocating off a distinctive reentrant about 100m away.

Being out in the woods was a lot more comfortable that I thought it would be. It was about 5 degrees warmer than at home, and not as much wind. As soon as I got warmed up I didn't notice the cold at all. Wind chill warnings all throughout the area.

Nice talk with Carl Muench afterwards, who came up with the idea of a QOC intercollegiate team: Jessica, Colin, Chris, and Addie, three of whom were there today and the 4th (Addie) would have been if her bus from Ithaca hadn't broken down last night and sent her back. Some team spirit was already detectable.

Core strength 12:00 [3]

Core strength plus stretching. I did TGIF's Five-Minute Plank. OK, it was really a 4.5-minute plank because I kind of dropped out on the last one. Plus squats, lunges, and figure-8s.

Trail Running 48:29 [3] 5.2 mi (9:19 / mi)
shoes: Roclite 280-2015

Greenbelt Park Perimeter Trail. What a nice run! The trail was in fine shape, hardly any wet spots. I felt strong all the way through. It was sunny, cool and breezy today, and I could hear the wind, but couldn't feel it. Perfect conditions.
