Road running 33:00 [3] 3.7 mi (8:55 / mi)
shoes: Adrenaline 3

Drumm loop, starting around 11:15. Saw a bunch of people I knew, or rather, they saw me. Pete on Ferndale (Domino's owner) asked where Jasmine was, but it took a few seconds to register, and all I could get out was "oh, hey Pete." Next Pat Zerfas was getting her bike ready for a ride and shouted out to me. All I could get out was "oh, hey Pat." Next, Pat Grube, a former neighbor, driving by, rolled down his window and said hi. I had that one drilled. "Oh, hey Pat!" And then said hey to Dan Evans borrowing a shovel from his neighbor, and hey to Mark just hanging out. And then got home to find the washing machine delivery guys just leaving, having refused to install the new washer because the tray the old one sat in was broken. Cripes. There went the afternoon, installing a new tray and washing machine.

Note

They refunded the money we had paid for installation.

GSFC perimeter road.

Trail Running 50:00 [3] 4.9 mi (10:12 / mi)
shoes: Adrenaline 3

Trail run at Greenbelt Park. Parts of Perimeter Trail, Dogwood Trail, and Blueberry Trail. Not too familiar with the latter two trails, and didn't make the right decisions in a couple of places. I totally don't believe the mileage from the Garmin. The last couple runs with it were spot on, but it did the quick power-up without the satellite screen. This time it spent a long time acquiring satellites. And there's no way I was over 10:00 per mile. More like 8:50.

Staying for 1 day in Burbank, found a run on mapmyrun.com, turned out well. Easy to follow, pretty good route choice up onto Sunset Canyon Rd. I parked at the rec center, which had the advantage of a water fountain when I finished. Next time I might cut the lower part short and go way up into the 7-figure homes. That would involve lots more climb. http://www.mapmyrun.com/us/burbank-ca/burbank-run-...

Road running 44:15 [3] 4.9 mi (9:02 / mi)
shoes: Adrenaline 3

Afternoon run on the Sligo loop. Having missed lunch due to a long shopping trip at Ikea for furnishings for the place in Maine, and a late start at that, I figured it was run now or never today. It turned out o.k., there was a breeze from the west and a few raindrops, and it felt fine. I don't get what's going on with my knees and ankles, they're killing me when I'm not running but feel great when I run.

Mowed the lawn as a cool-down. And then trimmed the azalea, just because.

Road running 40:00 [3] 4.0 mi (10:00 / mi)
shoes: Adrenaline 3

Running with Addie at the Farm in CT. Ran along River Road to where the Appalachian Trail comes down to the Housatonic River, then up the A.T. back towards Cornwall. Kind of muddy and slippery, so bagged that, came back down, and headed the other way on the trail south along the river. Still muddy due to high water. Back to the road and that was enough.

Note

Spent the week of June 3-9 in Maine. Renovations on the cabin basically finished, but nearly endless chores getting it habitable. No running, due to a variety of factors. No swimming either. Tried it one day, but the lake was too cold (66 F). I keep saying I'm going to get a wetsuit.

I got a couple of weird cracks in the skin on one foot. Deep and painful. I don't know what that was all about. At times I was hobbling, but they seem to be healing o.k.

Orienteering race 1:26:39 [4] 8.0 km (10:50 / km) +100m 10:12 / km
shoes: Inov8 Oroc 280

QOC Beer Chase "Black" course. This was a lot of fun as usual. I took a more reasonable strategy than in previous chases, not trying to keep up with the fastest runners but going at a (relatively) easy pace with the next group. So I found I had plenty of kick left as the run progressed. I had pulled away towards the end of the second loop, but I found myself alone and couldn't believe there was no one chasing, wait a minute, something must be wrong! But it wasn't, and they caught up eventually due to my slowdown. The third loop was easy even in the beer haze, and I ran it pretty fast.

I fell for a couple of Ted's Black-course tricks, like not figuring out the "8" fork on the first control on the second loop, and not seeing the contours obscured by the circle and line on the next control, and stupidly, not getting the control number right on the one festooned with all the extra markers. But nothing was so out of whack that it couldn't be taken in stride. Certainly no complaints.
