Howard Mountain loop. This route climbs up over Howard Mountain on an old logging road, makes a long descent down to U.S. 2, joining a rough dirt road for the last mile or so, then returns east along Rt. 2 and back up Howard Pond road, climbing about 500 feet in 1.5 miles. The initial climb is a little muddy and overgrown, but the rest of the forested part is very nice running. Route 2 has some high-speed traffic, but wide shoulders. The last mile of 8% grade is killer.
