Orienteering race 18:06 [5] *** 2.4 km (7:32 / km) +80m 6:28 / km

A very fun sprint at Roberts near Joaquin Miller. Much quick thinking, changes of direction and sprinting required. I had a good race, although around 10 I had to cut my pace back because I just couldn't keep it up. I was navigating well though, not stopping, and going straight to the control. Russell started a minute back and caught me around 11. We took a stupid route to 13 and I lost maybe 20 seconds there. Otherwise it was a good race.

Orienteering race 3:11:21 [3] *** 13.1 km (14:36 / km) +840m 11:04 / km

Golden Goat at Briones. Jason ran with me for the first 15 controls but then decided to just do the Kid so stopped there and won. I was 13th on the Goat at that point. We had kept up a really good pace until then with only one real mistake at 5 and a couple of suboptimal routes. So then I had to slow down but I was still running fine until about 21 when I started to cramp badly, first in my left quad and then essentially everywhere. I was then basically reduced to walking and occasionally sitting down to massage my legs so I got to watch everyone pass me. Frustrating.
It is clear that I am in worse shape than a year ago.
I did the B fork, which was about equivalent, and skipped 9. Afterwards, Penny pointed out that 1 was clearly the best skip but I don't think anyone did it.
