could feel the soreness in my left knee - actually seems to have moved to below the knee, in the upper part of the calf muscle.

Walking 30:00 [3] 2.0 mi (15:00 / mi)

lake w/ patty
increasing our daily step count but still not to 10,000.
may not have been the best thing to do as I can feel the soreness in my left knee after that.
This brings me to the conclusion that I should really try to limit use for a while instead of just slowing down. Let's see what a 7 day couch potato plan does.

Orienteering 46:38 [3] 5.8 km (8:02 / km)
ahr:154 max:174 shoes: inov8 Bare-Grip 200

5.2km Green course
still feeling strain in the left knee. Tried to keep the pace down and focus on good navigation. Messed up #9 the most by leaving 8 in the wrong direction. (I blame it on a new compass that chose not to work at that moment ) :)
Hoping that no orienteering next weekend will help heal the knee.

Went with the green course but I could feel my left hamstring tightening about half way through. Tried to keep the pace easy and the orienteering spot on. Happy to keep the time under one hour hopefully I didn't push too much. We'll see what the HRM says.
Nice course with good use of woods and lots of direction changes.

Orienteering 37:10 [3] 3.79 km (9:48 / km) +65m 9:02 / km
ahr:133 max:150 shoes: VJ Integrator

3.8 km on 3.5km Brown 108%.
Perfect course for today. My body felt pretty good coming off yesterday with the exception of the muscles/tendons in the back of my left knee. Most of the climb I did utilized the right leg for elevation gain. About half way through I could feel the outside of my right pinkey toe starting to get sore. I wore the VJ's as they are more supportive.
Nice straight forward course. It took me 4 to 5 controls to realize I was still converting distance at the 24000 scale... so everything was coming up really fast :)

The Crooked Compass Adventure. 9 mandatory controls 45 total - 8 hr time limit.
I really impressed myself by completing this and getting all the controls... and in under 6 1/2 hours... and burned 3100 calories!
I was very tentative going in and figured I would skip a bunch of optional controls. I never used a map at this scale and the detail is less than what I am used to. Yesterday I spent 6 hours in a car coming back from Erie at 10pm and had to turn around and leave a 4:30 this morning. My garmin was being difficult and not giving me direction to the event, it was raining, and my stomach didnt feel right....not a great start.

Thankfully, there was only a little rain throughout the day and nothing distracting or soaking. I almost passed on the first group of optional controls as they were in the opposite direction from the next mandatory control. I'm glad I went for them as I had enough time. Stomach problems the first 2 1/2 hours made me take two bathroom breaks then everything seemed to normalize.

Got to the check-in checkpoint in 3 hours and started the 2nd group of optional controls.

the last 6 optional controls were word descriptions only and the last two were challenging locations. I had at least a 1km lead on anyone behind me leaving F4 and only had 2 controls left. After F6 I was just barely ahead of two teams with 2km to the finish. They quickly passed me as my left knee began to feel very uncomfortable. I walked a 1/2 km and started back into a geriatric jog but 3 more teams passed me before the finish. actually, two of them were just in front of me at the finish (within 10 seconds) I really was not going for placement, I was ecstatic that I finished under 6 /1/2 hrs.

Note

NOTE on SUPPLIES:
I way over packed.
Took hydration pack with 2 L water and 2 500ml containers on the shoulder strap that had Gatorade
I finished with 0.7 L water and 300ml Gatorade

FOOD - TOOK:
4 Tangerine PowerGels
1 Apricot Cliff Bar
2 Oatmeal Rasin Walnut Cliff Bars
2 Coconut Cashew QuestBars
1 Shot Bloks (full 6)
1 Shot Bloks (only 1 left)
1/2 Fruit Smoothly BowerBar

FOOD - ATE:
2 Tangerine PowerGels
0 Apricot Cliff Bar
1 Oatmeal Rasin Walnut Cliff Bars
1 Coconut Cashew QuestBars
0 Shot Bloks (full 6)
1 Shot Bloks (only 1 left)
0 Fruit Smoothly BowerBar

The cool weather helped lower fluid intake and I made it a point to keep hydrated for the few days leading up to this.
I may have ate more if my stomach was normal in the beginning.
