11 AM

Road Running 4:45 [2] 0.6 mi (7:55 / mi)
shoes: INOV8 Roclite 295

Warmup run to the start control

Orienteering race 1:33:53 [4] 7.11 mi (13:12 / mi) +1019ft 11:38 / mi
spiked:9/19c shoes: INOV8 Roclite 295

Horrible run. Legitimately lost once. Severe mistake another time. Several mishandled controls. A few spiked controls. Out of shape.

Overall it was difficult to navigate because the bike trails which are numerous were not mapped and some mapped trails did not exist. When you were unsure of where you were, which happened to me numerous times, it was hard to know for sure where you might be because of this. I also felt like I was having trouble with the contours.

Had a slow run to 1 because I didn't think I was on course but my route seemed perfect. 2 was clean. Misread my map on the way to 3 causing a poor route. Got a little lost on my way to 4 trying to figure out which trail I hit. 5 semi-clean. Got a little off route and unsure on my way to 6. 7 clean.

Then 8. My initial bearing was on but then I went down the wrong spur. I came to a trail but wasn't sure what trail it was and if it was even on the map. Wondered a bit until I finally figured out where I was. Clean to 9 because it was where I had gotten lost.

Then on 10 (long route) I was coming up a spur and hit a trail. I didn't see the intersection I was expecting so I turned left and walked. Found the next intersection down but didn't check the bearing and wrongly went down it. When the trail I ended unexpectedly I was lost. Took some wondering and then I looked back at the map and realized the mistake I made without going back. Went directly to the CP without backtracking. 11, 12, 13 clean.

14 was a another long route. I opted to take the trails which I think was the best route. I ended up veering off the trail a bit early but only lost a little bit. Came over the spur to 15 and saw people standing at 16 only 200ft up stream and went there instead. Punched without checking the control and walked up stream looking for 16. Had to go back past 16 to punch 15 and repunch 16.

17,18, Go all clean. Tired.
1 PM

Orienteering race 33:26 [4] 2.46 mi (13:35 / mi) +245ft 12:25 / mi
spiked:8/10c shoes: INOV8 Roclite 295

Had planned to run this course because it was on completely different terrain. Debated not doing it since it was already past when I wanted to leave. Decided to do it to maybe make up for my blue mistakes.

Only 9 controls. Was clean until 6 where I didn't see the terrain accurately. On my way to 7 I crossed a reentrant in the wrong spot and went W instead of S. Had to backtrack to realize what I did.

Tired. Walking more than I should be. Good training though.

8 AM

Commuting 20:00 [2] 5.5 mi (16.5 mph) +80ft
shoes: Salsa Moto Rapido

Dropped the car off in Springfield for service.

Rode my 26er from there since I am expecting rain in the PM and the ride is short.
6 PM

Commuting 21:30 [2] 5.5 mi (15.3 mph) +200ft
shoes: Salsa Moto Rapido

Dark and wet ride back to the car. Luckily it was short and relatively painless. Weird riding such a small bike again. Kind of miss it.

7 AM

Commuting 51:20 [2] 16.29 mi (19.0 mph) +650ft
shoes: Answer Impact MTB

Fast, clean ride in. Only wait was a minute at 50.

Clear, calm and sunny 40D felt like 60D.

Avoided the Parkway Death Trail.
3 PM

Commuting 58:54 [2] 16.42 mi (16.7 mph) +900ft
shoes: Answer Impact MTB

Ride home was almost in the 50s. Left work a bit early. Wanted to go fast but lots of delays.
4 PM

Note

Walk with Zitch around the neighborhood

Trail Running 40:53 [2] 5.23 mi (7:49 / mi) +221ft 7:31 / mi
shoes: Asics 2110 (#2)

KT is now working in the city so I pick her up at West Falls Church metro instead of McLean. That means I will be running less of the PRT :-(

Ran home from the metro. Half road half neighborhood trails. Wet and dark night. Had a light on the whole time. Wore my 2110s hoping they will help the tightness in my left leg. Need to schedule the chiro ASAP.

6 AM

Commuting 56:10 [2] 16.29 mi (17.4 mph) +650ft
shoes: Answer Impact MTB

Early ride in. Left in the dark but light by the time I got to 50. New lights! Sub 30D. Made it in time for the morning meeting.
4 PM

Commuting 54:56 [2] 16.39 mi (17.9 mph) +900ft
shoes: Answer Impact MTB

Faster ride home than the AM despite a 2 min wait at 50. All thanks to a 20D swing in temp from the AM and a rare but small tailwind.
