Ride from CBurg after dropping off the car. Cold 20F. Wore casual clothes.

Had a unfortunate experience on the bike trail. I was riding along a fairly straight stretch. The first and only person I saw was walking two dogs both on 8-10ft leashes in opposite directions easily taking up the entire trail as they walked towards me. I waited about 3 seconds and since I saw no attempt to get out of the way I yelled out "Heads up, Heads up." I was then berated and told to slow down as he started to pull his dogs back. GPS has me going 17mph and I had no trouble slowing down at a reasonable rate to avoid crashing into him well before I got to him. I responded that I was going a safe enough speed and pointed out that he was taking up the whole trail. He told me to F- off.

I am not sure why he was so angry at my warning. Either he didn't see me and my warning was necessary to avoid a crash (or me having to stop completely and leave the trail) or maybe he feels he can use the entire trail and everyone else should avoid him. I may have been going too fast to pass someone as I approached but I was able to slow to the speed I needed to well before passing.

All I would have hoped for was a better attempt to make space for another trail user (I was the only other one on the trail from what I could tell) or a thank you for alerting him that I was coming when he may not have noticed me yet.

I guess that's too much to ask for.

VT Ultra Fat Ass 50k (14mi)
Only planned to do about half. Should have planned it better and gotten a ride to the start and just ran home. Halfway turnaround was at the PC trailhead (<2mi from home).

Weather was looking like it might be ugly but we avoided any major precipitation during the run. Ice everywhere though. 1/4 to 1/2 in on the trees and the trails and roads on the top of the mountain were mostly sheets of ice.

Pretty easy pace the entire way. Only struggled on the two Snakeroot climbs. Second was only 40" slower. Ran with Zitch and Frank from RunAbout until we split at Royale.

Drove to the turnaround to see the few that ran all the way there. Only one person attempted the entire course.

Ride at Pandapas with Zitch. He was happy to get out. Temps were in the 20's. Trails were frozen which was better than muddy. Creek crossings caused the front der to freeze (middle ring) and I was also having trouble with the front brake. Bettered my Snapper KOM despite the Der issue
