shoes: Giro Rumble

Ride to PT.
9 AM

HealthCare 1 [0]

Worked on L calf, quad, and adductor. Lots of pain on adductor. Felt all the release but still didn't feel like things were working properly on the ride after.
10 AM

Commuting 15:23 [1] 3.34 mi (13.0 mph) +417ft
shoes: Giro Rumble

Ride back. Tried to take it super easy to let the muscles find their groove. Not sure everything was running as their supposed to but I think progress.
5 PM

Commuting 35:15 [2] 10.13 mi (17.2 mph) +825ft
shoes: Giro Rumble

Commute home. Easy pace. No pushing the leg too much.

Trail Running 55:00 [3] 6.09 mi (9:02 / mi) +1244ft 7:34 / mi
shoes: Salomon Speedcross 3 (Blue #2)

Trail run. No Zitch. He sat staring up the mountain the whole time I was gone. Waiting until the weekend before he runs again.

Came across a lot more wildlife than usual since I was in "stealth mode."

First time running the connector to the neighbors spot on. The map is off though.

Worked on L adductor, calf, and a little sartorius. Thought sartorius was released but it needed more.
4 PM

Commuting 1:17:57 [2] 23.37 mi (18.0 mph) +1777ft
shoes: Giro Rumble

Ride home to see how the pup was doing. Much better. Not much of a limp. Will be a few days before I let him run in the woods again though.

Tried to focus on leg motion and muscle movement. Still not right.

Mountain Biking 1:52:00 [2] 14.7 mi (7.9 mph)
shoes: Pearl Izumi X Alp Enduro III

MTB with Zitch. No watch.

Slower pace. A little warm, 70's. Creeks were empty except for pooled water. Started at end of PC. Rode to SC and then PP. Royale was closed so I came across an old DT that we explored/bikewhacked. It ended at a drainage that we followed to the DT section of PC. MA to PC with an out and back on IP.

Zitch seemed fine but degraded fast after we crossed the fire road. He couldn't do much more than walk the last mile or 2. I thought he was just starting to get hot and tiring at his usual 12 mi. He was limping when he got back to the house though. He cut off some of his big pad. My best guess is from running down IP.

Trail Running 48:46 [2] 4.21 mi (11:35 / mi) +894ft 9:39 / mi
shoes: Salomon Speedcross 3 (Blue #2)

Run with Zitch on the neighbors property. Wet out. I think I finally found the route to and from the neighbors trails again.

Big release on my Sartorius. A world of difference. Unfortunately doesn't make the lower leg any better.

Road Biking race 43:00 [4] 4.3 mi (6.0 mph)
shoes: Pearl Izumi X Alp Enduro III

Short ride from the bike drop to the finish. I wore Julia's helmet to use her light (mine was dying). Also her strap broke so we made a strap out of zipties. Quite amusing.

Adventure Racing race 14:58:00 [0] 58.0 mi (15:29 / mi) +6769ft 13:57 / mi

Blue Ridge Bear
Short course. Thought this coming in from the distances but the maps revealed it to be true. There was only one tricky part of the course. We had to make it to the bike drop on the paddle by 1630. We set a personal cutoff for the paddle put in at 1430. This meant we only had 4.5 hours for the first bike/trek section. Any points we didn't collect would have to be captured after the long paddle and trek at the end of the race at night. It would also require an extra out and back to get to the points. If we got them early they would be on our way to the put in.

Mountain Biking race 3:00:00 [4] 16.35 mi (5.5 mph) +2871ft
shoes: Pearl Izumi X Alp Enduro III

Bike leg to start the race. Paved roads, double track, single track, hike a bike and trekking.

Luckily Earl realized we could take the road out to the one mandatory point and the trail back instead of an out and back on the trail. This made meeting our paddle deadline much more reasonable. We decided to get points until we needed to bail and head to the boats. We had no problem with the 5 points along the trail. We then crossed 43 to get the other 4 points since we had plenty of time.

Arrived at CP3 without realizing we were there already. Many teams did this because the trails were hard to keep track of. Had trouble finding the last CP (CP1). attacked from an unmarked road and boundary that wasn't marked precisely. Had to check a few spurs before finding the CP.

Made it to the paddle put in at 1pm. 1.5 hours before our self imposed cutoff.
1 PM

Paddling race (Canoe 2p) 4:00:00 [4] 15.0 mi (3.8 mph)
shoes: Adidas Climacool

Had to load our bikes and carry them in the boats for 6 miles. Actually went smoother than I thought it might (~10min). Taking off my front wheel and seat made it small enough to slide right in. Unfortunately the map board (which I really didn't use) was in the way from the bike sliding all the way in.

Dropped the bikes and then cruised the rest of the paddle. Paddle time to the bike drop was only an hour as compared to our estimated 1.5 hours. Water level was just barely runnable at 2.3 ft. No walking but had to give a few pushes.
5 PM

Orienteering race 7:15:00 [3] 22.34 mi (19:28 / mi) +3898ft 16:43 / mi
shoes: Scott eRide Grip3 (#2)

This was the biggest part of the race. A fairly long trek with significant route decisions to make. We traveled these same ridges 6 years ago in the One Day but not quite as many controls to capture.

The controls this time were spread out and not at all linear. All except one looked to be within 300 meters of a road/trail with a few short shwacks between trails. We measured out about 4 different options before the race. Had it narrowed down to two at the start dependent on if it was daylight or not. As we started running on some of the roads we decided to revert back to another option which provided the most road/trail travel so we could jug the whole way. New route was 2.5 mi longer but had .7 mi less shwacking. We hammered the one lonely point out early and then were back traveling with the teams behind us. The shwack wasn't too bad. Might have saved us a bit of time but nothing major.

We had one more big decision. We could again save 1.5 mi but we would have 2 steep uphill shwacks for a total of .7mi and 1100 ft. That was a pretty easy choice not to take. We heard the second of the shwacks ended up being pretty thick as well.

Nav went well on the trek 1 miscue on the end when we had Dan nav. We started down a road without finding an attack point. Searched randomly then backed up 200m and did it right.

We were able to keep the pace pretty high when on trails and roads as planned. Encountered several bee nests along the trek.

Ride home. Almost made it up the driveway. Walked a few meters and then kept going. Most of the driveway has a real smooth track. Felt like I was moving fast.

Orienteering 47:53 [2] 3.09 mi (15:30 / mi) +829ft 12:21 / mi
shoes: Salomon Speedcross 3 (Blue #2)

Great weather. DP dropping. Zitch and I explored one of the last spurs left on the neighbors property and then some other small areas. I worked on some commands and heeling with him. Lost track of my location for a brief moment on the way back following the drainage back up the hill.

Trail Running 2:12:26 [3] 11.0 mi (12:02 / mi) +3312ft 9:22 / mi
shoes: Salomon Speedcross 3 (Blue #2)

Run with Zitch. Also did a lot of exploring on Gap. Another wet and humid morning. 73DP.

Followed a trail parallel to the end of Poverty. It faded but went most of the way through. Also found a new recently cut trail that cuts from the top of the Poverty DT climb to the top of Indian Pipe. Thought there was another trail marked waiting to be cut but it turned out to just be trees marked to be cut. I wondered around following them for a bit until I realized that's what it was.

Followed the other DT off of Poverty Creek. There was more ST at the end. Gets real close to the start of trillium.

Zitch got stung by some bees towards the beginning. Was worried it was a snake at first that he was crying about. Went a bit longer than I would have liked without water but we enjoyed it when we got back to it.

Mountain Biking 1:58:25 [3] 13.88 mi (7.0 mph) +2657ft
shoes: Pearl Izumi X Alp Enduro III

Got out a little early so Zitch could join. It was pretty cool in the valley but very humid, 70DP. Unfortunately forgot my gloves which was rough given the conditions. Most downhills were rode slowly cause my hands were soaked.

Rode up and over to Old Farm. Tried once again to find Homonym, this time with a map (not that it is marked on the map). Still no luck. Came back Queen Anne and Skullcap.

I felt real slow on the climbs and had trouble technically. Think the temps had something to do with it but also just off. Beauty was only about 25 secs slowed. Old Farm more but we stopped for water.

Trail Running 41:24 [2] 3.28 mi (12:37 / mi) +602ft 10:45 / mi

A quick run before it got too dark with Zitch. Did a little off trail. One new area. A storm earlier that day had made the trees wet but the creeks were still pretty low. Finding my way back to the house through the woods was tough.

Run at Perrineville Lake with Zitch. Warm in the fields but cool in the woods. Ran to the end of Witches Hollow. Not quite rideable but there is still a path the whole way. Allowed me to make a loop without going on Rochdale. Saw another baby deer towards the end. Z was on a leash this time.

Quick visit before leaving town.

We identified some more foot/arch exercises to start working on. Think this may have a true effect on the actual cause.
