Trail Running 43:13 [3] 4.15 mi (10:25 / mi) +1281ft 8:03 / mi
shoes: Scott eRide Grip3 (#2)

Short evening run with Zitch. Ran on the neighboring private property. There are a lot of trails here. Need to talk to the neighbors about running and riding here regularly. Only did one off trail climb up a hillside.

Double Dawg Dare - 1st Dawg only (Rowdy)
Casual Ride. Leaving the watch on was easier than remembering to restart. Good for working on some technical skills with lots of lines to follow. Good to see some old faces that I haven't yet seen since getting back in town.
7 PM

Hiking 23:48 [0] 0.67 mi (35:32 / mi) +899ft 15:39 / mi

Family stroll. Think I found another old cutout up towards our property. Can't be very long though.

Trail Running 55:34 [2] 4.31 mi (12:54 / mi) +1061ft 10:27 / mi
shoes: Salomon Speedcross 3 (Blue #2)

Did some more exploring with Zitch. Mix between on and off trail. Took a similar route down to Poverty Creek. When I found a great deer trail I took it and turned NE. It started to fade towards the bottom but good stuff. Explored a new route from Straley Branch. Pretty clear on my route through the main reentrant. Had trouble finding a good path up the first spur. When I got to my usual deer trail I followed it E instead of W. Had some good lines up to the main ridge but stayed low as long as it made sense. Should have cut up earlier for a cleaner line.

We even saw a Black Bear*
6 PM

Trail Running 1:14:42 [3] 6.2 mi (12:03 / mi) +694ft 10:54 / mi
shoes: Salomon Speedcross 3 (Blue #2)

Ran on an old Greenbelt map. Ran a Blue course from 2011. This was one of my better runs as it was a rare time I beat JT and tied JA.
http://ar.attackpoint.org/racesplits.jsp/race_6263

Had trouble verifying I was in the right spot for some of the controls. There are a lot of ditches and erosion gullies and a lot of them were used for control locations. These are harder to verify without taking too much time. Tried to balance the two without sitting for too long.

Wanted to load this to Routegadget but was unable.

Fixed my error to 2 but similar time. Bad route to CP 5. Improved to CP6 if it was right. I had trouble finding and then verifying CP10. Had a lot of trouble verifying CP 11. Saved a minute on CP 13. Looks like I was in the wrong spot for 14, similar mistake as before. Had a much better route to 18 in 2011.

Paddling 2:00:00 [1] 9.0 mi (4.5 mph)

Paddle down the Middle Yough with Ashley. At a pretty relaxed pace to give the students a chance to learn. Water level was at 3 ft (about 2 ft higher than normal). I always prefer running this at the higher level.
7 PM

Mountain Biking 1:13:32 [2] 10.73 mi (8.8 mph) +1428ft
shoes: Shimano M161G

Short ride before it got too dark. Came down Sugar Run slow as it was getting dark. Kept the lights off though.
11 PM

Trail Running 1:27:09 [2] 7.26 mi (12:00 / mi) +1230ft 10:21 / mi
shoes: Scott eRide Grip3

GREAT full moon night run with KE. Conditions were much better tonight, dry and clear. Temp was great as well. We had a great run up to the Kentuck Knob Overlook and back. Didn't need lights except for a few times to verify we were on the trail.

Trail Running 1:15:03 [2] 6.8 mi (11:02 / mi) +1029ft 9:39 / mi
shoes: Scott eRide Grip3

Full moon night run. It was a bit cloudy so a little less light and foggy so the flashlight was a bit harder to use. I tried to go sans light as much as possible but needed a few times. The trail was real wet so there was little room for error on the slick rocks and roots. The trails on the top were open grassy (swampy) XC trails which were easier with the moonlight.

Ride home. Heavy wind from the SW. Forgot clothes again so just wore running shorts and a tshirt.

Trail Running 34:02 [3] 2.64 mi (12:53 / mi) +717ft 10:15 / mi
shoes: Scott eRide Grip3

Another evening run with Zitch on the mountain. Started off trail this time. Slow going. Started higher on the hillside but think I ended up on the lower deer trail.

Wore a Salomon XT Twin. Definitely has more room but it maybe too much. The belt worked pretty well and didn't spin. Could feel the extra weight and more bouncing from being vertical. It is definitely one of the better belts though.

Commuting 14:48 [2] 3.94 mi (16.0 mph) +236ft

Ride to Class

Commuting 13:51 [2] 3.95 mi (17.1 mph) +317ft

Ride from class. Sun came out.

Found out when I got to class that it was cancelled again. Email came as I was getting my bike ready. Meant to check it when it came in but forgot. Oh well. Got in a lunch ride. I pretty much ended up racing the CRC bus to campus and back. It got a head start and it only beat me by 10 sec.
5 PM

Commuting 37:26 [2] 10.76 mi (17.2 mph) +759ft
shoes: Answer Impact MTB

Ride home. A little cold and windy but not too bad. No bag, felt fast.
6 PM

Trail Running 32:13 [3] 2.21 mi (14:35 / mi) +914ft 10:28 / mi
shoes: Scott Kinabalu

Bonus evening run with Z. Wanted to test out a hydration belt that came in the mail (Gregory Tempo H1). I was excited about the horizontal bottle design. Only belt I could find like this. Worked great but not sure there is enough storage room for what I'd want. Have two more to try out.

Ran down the SE side of the mountain on some ATV trails. Super steep trying to come back up. Spent the last 1/2 off trail. Got back to the house a new way using some deer trails.

Orienteering 2:42:47 [1] 8.65 mi (18:49 / mi) +1757ft 15:47 / mi
shoes: Salomon Speedcross 3 (Blue #2)

Set some permanent O-points at Mountain Lake with Z, Mark, his gf, and Samson. Zitch enjoyed having another canine to run with. We did the first bit together and then split up for the rest of the points meeting each other every few CPs. We stopped a few times and also forgot to restart my watch.

He changed some points up moving a few closer to the hotel. He also has a new flag (PVC pipe) and punch setup. Looked good.

Commuting 45:44 [2] 12.22 mi (16.0 mph) +824ft
shoes: Answer Impact MTB

Ride home. No socks. A bit windy.

Wasn't planning on riding home but my knee was feeling better and the research car had a hole in the water pump so I wasn't left with much choice.

Rode up the driveway again. The soft ground and extra weight was noticeable. Riding up the driveway is 1 min faster than walking fast.

Thursday Apr 3, 2014 #

Note
(injured)

Used a little heat at the end of the day.

Wednesday Apr 2, 2014 #

Note

Forgot my riding clothes at home so I wasn't able to ride home after volleyball.

Volleyball 1:00:00 [0]

After work

Note
(injured)

Popped the bursa sac on my right knee playing volleyball. Can only bend to a right angle. Hopefully will be better by Sunday

Commuting 40:00 [2] 11.9 mi (17.8 mph) +661ft
shoes: Answer Impact MTB

No commuting bag.

Through the HS again. Weather is great. Hopefully this will get me commuting more.

Rode up the driveway!!! Super impressed. Thought I'd give it a try. Figured I'd make it 10 yards or so. Good thing I had the triple. Might be able to do it in the middle ring after some training.
