Orienteering 18:50 [4]

Sprint canberra event 5 at ANU
Worst run of the week, lots of hesitations and slow running
Took the wide left route to 6 which was a really bad decision, and even then spent too long looking at the rest of the course when I had the opportunity to be running much faster
After having run past 13 I still took the wrong route choice, but at least didn't get disqualified on the olive green

Orienteering warm up/down 15:00 [3]

Note

Easily the best camp I've been on, a world of difference to our state camps just due to having elites vs inexperienced juniors
Very nice to be looking more at preparation/recovery and higher level race process than the standard sprint technique lessons of 'choose a route and stick with it'. Plenty to think about both in terms of sprints and in working towards JWOC
Also very happy with my results at sprint canberra, good to see I can at least contend with some of the people who have always beaten me previously, though keeping it up at the longer bush events will be a challenge
Events were all very well organised and lots of fun, great to have competition in the off season and wish we could have those live results at all our events. Big thanks to everybody who organised
Really missing that food though

Orienteering 15:00 [4]

One-leg map-memory intervals at radford
Great exercise, interesting to see how it was easy to find a route to the next circle and run full pace to get there, but then incredibly difficult to remeber where the control was within the circle

Orienteering warm up/down 10:00 [3]

Orienteering 18:25 [4]

Sprint canberra event 4 at Remembrance Park
Didn't like how the loops worked at the bottom, with the dodgy spectator chute leading you in the wrong direction for one and the other just being a few hundred metres of dead running. Also the map needed a lot of work, there was a massive unmarked dirt embankment behind the war memorial building, an unmarked overpass between the buildings, and a construction site meant left was easily the best route on the low granularity loop through the war memorial
Started with Mr Purcell and only saw him when I was a loop ahead, but had some of the girls to run with through the top section

Orienteering warm up/down 20:00 [3]

collected a control

Running 10:36 [5] 3.0 km (3:32 / km)

3k time trial at the AIS track
Never actually run a straight 3k before, but I thought my pacing was fine
Happy enough with my time, obviously still plenty of work to do on running speed, but good to see I'm not completely out of touch with the others my age, and within OA's recommend time

Running warm up/down 20:00 [3]

Orienteering 20:00 [4]

Pairs relay at commonwealth park
6 intervals, taking turns with bun
Fairly simple controls and very fast running, was with Jarrah, Ashley and Henry for the first few loops but lost them by the end

Orienteering warm up/down 30:00 [3]

including some running drills with Kelly Candy

Orienteering 20:13 [5]

Sprint canberra event 3 at CSIRO
Very nice course, easily my favourite of the events
Came in to 7 from the left and didn't see it, so ended going around and behind it, and had to climb a little retaining wall, breaking some rocks off the wall in the process
Had craney to lead me through the high granularity section at the end which was nice

Orienteering warm up/down 20:00 [3]

collected some controls

Running 11:32 [4]

3k time trial with changing directions and distances like we did at NSW camp last year, but this time with controls every 50m
Pretty interesting exercise, I didn't make any mistakes with distance/direction, but still lost plenty of time either through reading the descriptions or punching the controls

Running warm up/down 20:00 [3]

Orienteering 12:19 [4]

Sprint canberra event 2 at Radford
Crazy mass start, thankfully managed to stay within sight of the leaders and get to number 1 ahead of most people, because it turned in to a wrestling match with everybody trying to punch. They definitely needed more than one SI box, plenty of people lost minutes by the end of the course because they were 20s late to number 1 and had to try to fight back. Was surprised to be well into the course and only just have craney and lachy dow overtaking me
Rest of the course was pretty much running, made it through the high granularity section by only looking at my map to check which loop to take
Really happy with my result, good position at control 1, meant I could just stick with everyone till the end, although that last control was a bit annoying

Orienteering warm up/down 15:00 [3]

Orienteering 15:00 [5]

First day of the sprint camp
3 'maze-o' courses plus one short interval at Black Mt Peninsula
Really fun exercise, had to spend all of every single leg thinking about your route to the next one

Orienteering warm up/down 10:00 [3]

Orienteering 20:19 [4]

Sprint canberra event 1 at AIS
No big mistakes, but looking back I probably took the wrong choice of left or right on a few controls - should have gone left to 3, right to 20, and most of all left to 5
Still a nice course, plenty of good route choices even with the low granularity

Orienteering warm up/down 15:00 [3]

Orienteering 38:43 [4]

Twilight event at Hackett Hill
Unlike most of the super slack elites I took the training course with half the map blanked out, although I did have the advantage of putting out controls 7, 8, and 9
Ok through the first loop, but then failed to hit 10 and didn't know if I had gone left or right, so ended up at 11 and went back
Messed up again at 18, drifting downhill and searching around the bottom of the damn to find the control

Orienteering warm up/down 1:00:00 [3]

warm up plus putting out some controls
