Orienteering - race 1:13:36 [3] 8.9 mi (8:16 / mi)
Scottish champs W21e - win!
Delighted. Binned over a minute at number 1 but after that went quite clean. It was tough, but I dug in. Ah, so pleased. I really wanted to perform well, so rested up this week. I didn’t know how to approach it technically, so spoke to Nick who geeked me a course (very accurate) and we talked techniques which sorted me out. I’m pleased. Did I mention that?
Number 1 I just didn't go far enough off the ride so relocated off the big ride. Banned maybe 1:30. Damn. We had discussed how the only thing I could do was run as cleanly as possible, so concentrated on that from here in. Number 3 was tucked away but I lost no time. To number 5 I ran right of the Loch and powered through a fair bit of gorse (yum!). At 6 the paths were very vague and I ended up on the wrong one. I realised that the contours weren’t right, so I corrected before I lost too much time. 7 was a straight slog. To 8 I ran pretty much straight too. The felled was ok. Took a gel coming up the hill to the circle. Took a gel!!! That’s how seriously I was taking it. The next few it was hard to keep the tempo up. Took some water after 11 (thanks) then straight to 12. There were some nice extraction lanes on the line. Got stuck up to my tits in a big eggy bog half way to 13. This weighed me down a fair bit, all of the eggy mud. Felt like I was dragging the whole flipping bog with me the rest of the way to 13. The map was obscured by mud so I just ran to the middle of the circle. 14 was a real slog. Worked out the pylons and got my head down and got there. I concentrated on the last few as this is the part of the map where lots of time can be lost. Pleased. Felt ok physically. Maybe gel is the way forward. No orienteering for a while for me now though. Yetholm, Jukola, Lairig Ghru, lakes 5 day, Ochils 2000 and half marathon training..
Trail running 10:00 [3] 1.0 mi (10:00 / mi)
Bit of panic sprint to the start with lucy who I had forgotten about. She started an hour before the rest of us. She managed 3rd!
