Orienteering - race 18:41 [3] 5.0 mi (3:44 / mi)

University of Limpopo sprint race

Lucy has been bravely venturing out every day despite us not really telling her how to orienteer at any point (criminally slack parenting, I admit) but had a bad day in the forest yesterday, so when she asked me where she was on 2 occasions I couldn’t just run on. See splits. I think I might have just pipped Heather. Oh well! Dropped time on the 2nd last one too running the wrong way around a building.

Would have won blah blah blah. Theme developing here. I am just too rusty at this sport. Great to run against Jenny and hev and the orienteering was great fun!

Jogging about made it up to the 5 miles.

Orienteering - race 44:00 [3] 5.0 mi (8:48 / mi)

Day 4. Would have won if it wasn’t for number 12. Jog to find a very lost Lucy made up to 5 miles. It was her first traumatic race. She got lost in some impenetrable when her path petered out and then tried to fight her way out. Lost, sad and muddy, someone found her and gave her a lift back to assembly. I feel like a very bad parent

Orienteering - race 50:00 [3] 5.0 mi (10:00 / mi)

New Year’s Day rest day fundraiser at a township. Took the kids around the middle then ran myself. Had a fight with a very spikey bush and dropped lots of time here, but such a friendly event, saw a chameleon in the assembly (so cool!!) and ray won a big box of home made biscuits so all is good. So hot though. High 30’s. Resolution 5 mile done

Orienteering - race 44:00 [3] 3.7 mi (11:53 / mi)

Number 8. What on earth was going on? Map was a rough open spur, terrain was half open, half impenetrable. Control was a clearing. How do you get a clearing on an open knoll???

Graeme pointed out later that if you spun around three times, did a burpee, swore in five different languages and held the map in the shade, some green became visible in the rough open and it all made sense. I didn’t know this so I didn’t do it and nothing made sense. But it was being a total tit of my own accord at 10 that cost me. I would have won otherwise...

Orienteering - race 1:10:00 [3] 6.9 mi (10:09 / mi)

So far, so hot, felt shit, nearly died. Borrowed a not great compass, so made a big mistake at 4, and I sort of stopped believing in it then. Which was unfortunate as there wasn’t really a plan b at 14 and I dropped loadsa time. I’d have won otherwise.

Orienteering - race 39:00 [3] 5.6 mi (6:58 / mi)

Totally cool terrain! Giraffes! Ran ok in the start, would have been a good race if it wasn’t for 13 and 14. I won beating all the old men
