Orienteering - race 41:48 [3] 5.7 mi (7:20 / mi)

Scottish relays. Women's open leg 1

Finished yesterday, jogged to download in the rain, picked up the kids, went straight home, then in 30 mins managed to shower, cook the kids tea, get dressed up, brief the babysitter and leave. Power walked 2 miles in heels to meet my work colleagues, get a taxi to Musselburgh for a night of vodka redbulls and easy dancing at a work colleagues wedding. Home at 1.

I felt truly horrific this morning. A body of pain. The worst was my lower back and left hip. Just couldn't move them at all. So the mass start was not fun. I just abut managed to run all way out of the field without stopping. After the first 1k or so my stride was lengthening gradually, but my lack of agility due to incredible stiffness / pain was hampering me in the terrain. The course was fun, and I like binning wood. You don't get much like that in these parts. The last bit in the field was again bad for my body, but was glad to finish. Lucille ran well in leg 2, and I think lorna went out in 4th-ish so was disappointed to see that we finished next to bottom team. Was a 10sec gap to Laura Robertson/ Kirsten Strain / Fanni not enough for Lorna???

My hip has got really bad over the past few months. It leaves me with no agility at all, and running with it is winding my back up. Might be time to think about getting it checked out properly.

Orienteering - race 1:25:00 [3] 11.1 mi (7:39 / mi)

Scottish champs, W21e Gullane and Archerfield.

Didn't like lots of it. Like yellowcraigs being too hard to read at that scale. Run and hope worked ok. Lots time at 4 (didn't work out the spur was the top of the cliff) and 5 which I thought was a root stock for some reason. And 10 which was in the wrong place. I didn't see the misplaced control for ages either, which was odd as I am usually quite observant. 7-12 was about 2 k of dead running, which I found 'tiresome' (see Tuesday for translation).

Then 12 was on a spur. Confused. There did not appear to be a spur in the middle of the circle. Was it on top of the crag like 4? Ran up, couldn't see it. Ran as close to the edge as I liked, could't see it. came down. Maybe it was on top of the next crag, ran up, not there. came down and found it at the crag foot. Hmm. But the worst bit was this part of map was probably the very edge of the old gullane map. And you know when the edge of the map just sort of tails off, with the contours gradually fading away and there being no other features and no other veg. This is probably what happened here, as there was a LOT of veg on the ground, but nothing on the map AT ALL. When you are standing on a fairway and it is marked as rough open you know something is wrong. Ditto the hill halfway to 21, marked as impenetrable. Looked fine to me.

21 and 22 were a lot of dead running too. I very nearly jackked at 17, but kept going and was glad I did as in the last few I made myself navigate properly for once and it was fun.

Trail running 30:00 [3] 3.0 mi (10:00 / mi)

Orienteering - race 15:41 [3] 2.9 mi (5:24 / mi)

Urban race, Tranent

Much fun little urban race around Tranent. Feeling fresh, pushing quite hard. Which was probably foolish as I seem to have developed a calf problem, and my infected toe blister didn't like it at all. Living for the moment. Enjoying running hard when I can.

Road running 5:00 [3] 0.5 mi (10:00 / mi)

Very merest of jogaboutery. Not nearly sufficient, for which I will pay for the rest of the weekend.

W40 today, w21e tomorrow, women's open Sunday and the Rigg race Monday should Ray get back from SIPR in time, which isn't looking all that likely right now. No wind. Rowing a 45ft catamaran can't be easy.

Cross training 41:07 [3] 10.6 mi (3:53 / mi)

Toe almost runable but not quite ready yet, so a lunchtime cycle burn instead. Down to Newhaven and back. The trams in Haymarket massively eat into my lunch-hour allocation which is annoying, but once you get past that it makes for a lovely cycle. I got lots of Strava whatsits so must have been making an effort.

Note

got a blister on one of my toes and it is not getting any better. Hard to walk anywhere it is so sore, so probably a good day to have some time off.

Intervals - short and speedy 55:57 [3] 6.36 mi (8:48 / mi)

Inverleith Park reps.

3min, 2, 1 x 3 with 1 min. Fun to run with others, but I find grass reps really tiresome (translation: I really fucking HATE grass reps). Always a CV/leg strength compromise session compared to tarmac / track / cinder / anything with a bit of grip. That's my excuse for being crap at them anyway.
