Yoga 25:00 [3]

Rodney DVD. Helped my back a lot.
12 PM

XC / road / hill race 33:08 [3] 4.23 mi (7:50 / mi)

Borders league xc Peebles

Nice course, nice day. For the first time in at least 6 months I felt good, and could push. Still a long way from good, but the best of my 4 borders league races by far. I felt like a runner today, and that hasn't happened for a long time :-)

Off-road running 8:00 [3] 10.0 mi (48 / mi)

Warm down with Megan and Rhona. Nice.

Intervals - short and speedy 45:35 [3] 5.1 mi (8:56 / mi)

It was wet. I had an hour to kill at the meadows while Lozza was playing football. I was going to do some of ray's urban from last weekend, but I forgot the map. It was raining, so I had to do something. I tried some Hyman 1ks, but I did 2 x 4:06 and was just too depressed by the (lack of) speed (did 5 of these 5 just short of 5 years ago all in 3:30-ish). I then did a lap of 8 x 1min on and 30 secs off which was much more fun.

I wonder if it is possible to do the intervals at the old speed again if I set my mind to it... Probably not, as ageing from 35 - 40 is probably more of a problem than motivation.

Intervals - long endurance 46:00 [3] 5.5 mi (8:22 / mi)

Not sure how I managed to motivate myself to do this in the cold, but I did. Yay! 10 x 2mins on 1 min off around the meadows. Was going to do Hyman reps, but decided that on reflection I'd rather not know how slow I am!

Road running 14:06 [3] 1.6 mi (8:49 / mi)

Run to wrk. Oh how my legs ache!
12 PM

Intervals - long endurance 55:58 [3] 6.5 mi (8:37 / mi)

Tired legs (see previous training) so probably not a good idea to join Ray and his Carnethy / finance chums in Inverleith park for reps. But it is pretty good training because it is with company (rare for me) and it is at lunch time which is good when you have kids. I really hate grass reps though. They are good for poncey road runners to get strength for the 'terrain' of xc races, but for those that already have enough strength they are a bit of a compromise of a reps session. Better than nothing though, just have to do some proper reps on a firm surface some other time in the week.

Trail running 1:06:33 [3] 7.84 mi (8:29 / mi)

Took my tired legs on a jog. Along the canal, which is shut at craiglockhart, then up took road through the craiglockhart hills, wound my way up to buckstone and mortonhall. Nice night. Twisted my ankle in the dark but hopefully not too badly.
