Orienteering - race 1:01:54 [3] 6.2 mi (9:59 / mi)
Penicuik Estate, blue
I asked someone afterwards how he found the blue course. He said ' I spent the majority of the time on my hands and knees in brambles and mud which is never a good thing'. It was that kind of course. Looking to the positives - it was well planned; the 5m radius of control number nine was quite pleasant; if you approached number 12 from the south-south-east, the last 50m could *almost* be described as nice.
I made a few mistakes. The biggest of which was following Robin Strain to number 16. I should have looked him up and down and realised that there was no obvious signs of mud so he couldn't have been to control 7 on my course; and the lack of visible blood should have made me suspicious that he hadn't done the blue; and last but not least, Murray and Kirsten clearly get their navigation genes from their mother (a nifty little competitor) rather than their father, a man of many (other) talents.
JUST managed to stay ahead of the other elite athlete's** to take the victory. Get in!!!
**seemed to have missed out the word 'Dads' here by accident.
