Trail running 10:00 [3] 1.0 mi (10:00 / mi)

Warm up

Orienteering - race 43:00 [3] 5.6 mi (7:41 / mi)
slept:6.0

This was orienteering training really. M20s/ w45l/m35s and something else. On the s6d day 1, name I have forgotten.

Nice, good fun. Very wet, and the extra marshes made me hesitate at first. I didn't like the mapping of the open moor half way. I guess the open moor went to semi open on the map which I didn't pick up on on the map, so was confused on the ground but didn't really agree with the contours either. Lesson - don't get sloppy when it looks easy. A good 1-2 mins dropped on each of these. The rest of the nav I was pretty pleased with though, and I felt really strong and was pushing hard.

Off-road running 40:00 [3] 5.0 mi (8:00 / mi)
slept:4.0

Not much sleep. In the campsite, pitching 3 tents more than once (we had to move them). Then training and Uncle James was busy, and Grannie was doing merchandise sales at the event centre. So took the kids down there with a pile of activity books and pens and left them in the back of the hall. Bad mummy guilt on the drive to Creag leach. That was soon forgotten after some good orienteering.

Feeling strong, navigating well, I was a different athlete to the last time I was here 3 weeks ago. Pleased. Some drills after too.

Trail running 10:00 [3] 1.0 mi (10:00 / mi)

Warm up.

Note
slept:7.5 (rest day)

I didn't plan this to be a rest day, but I got up, packed all the kids things into the van, drove to a laundrette, then event centre for a few hours helping mum with sorting the merchandise for the 6 day, then to the campsite, pitched our awning and sorted all the stuff, then supermarket, dinner while following the sprint quali, then more sorting, kids to bed, washing up, then I have no babysitter and it is chucking it down. Gossiped with my brother instead. I am totally exhausted from doing nothing much, all while trying to entertain the kids.

Lucy is in 2,000 questions a day mode just now. The best one of today was "why can't ladies take their boobies on aeroplanes?".

What she meant was "why can't they take their boobies through the security gate?" Which then turned out to mean "why can't they take their metal boobies through the security gate?" Which turned into "why can't they take their metal bras through the security gate?" Which then turned into "why can't they take their underwired bras through the security gate?" They can Lucy, they guards just check it is the bra wire that is making the scanner go off first. Conversing with a 5 year old is mentally exhausting.

Orienteering - training 52:00 [3] 5.0 mi (10:24 / mi)
slept:3.0

Barely any sleep. Insomnia got me. Which didn't help my low mood.

Achtemarack. Nice forest, nice course, and going ok but a bit too down to concentrate. I hate going orienteering training by myself.

I'm such a miserable grump. Sometimes I think I am a teenager all over again.

Orienteering - training 55:00 [3] 5.0 mi (11:00 / mi)

Long woc test race. 1-8. Terrible on the long leg, and dropped time at 7. The rest was ok, but I felt tired so was slow.

Off-road running 40:00 [3] 5.0 mi (8:00 / mi)
slept:6.0

Jogging to the start and back through 8-11. Feeling drained and down.

Trail running 50 [3] 0.5 mi (1:40 / mi)
slept:8.0

Stressful time at work, and struggling to sleep due to scabby knees (last night was sleeping tablets). Then a 3 hour drive. But driving towards woc and the kids so it is all good.

I went to deeside and ran the middle selection race. This is the warm up. It was v short as I was worried about it getting dark, and there were some recently erected signs saying don't leave valuables on display, and I had 4 bikes in the van as well as a load of other stuff. Felt physically ok.

Orienteering - training 38:00 [3] 5.2 mi (7:18 / mi)

Woc Middle selection race. Torphan-something. Inchmarnoch.

Not exactly buzzing, but no niggle pain. I ran this hard. I didn't know if there would be markers in the forest. I saw a streamer at the start, and set off. Saw nothing at one, so stopped looking for anything. Number on was pretty tenuous anyway. It would have been easier with a kite, I told myself. 2 fine, 3 ok, 4 was weird. Got off line a bit. Then I starred to get into it more. From 10 onwards I was doing good fast easy navigating, and my splits really picked up, though I didn't feel I was doing anything different.

A bit of a confidence boost, esp the second half, as I had been feeling a bit uncertain about woc on the way.

Trail running 13:00 [3] 1.3 mi (10:00 / mi)

Drove to cambus and did a warm down jog there. Around the trails. The forest looked lovely, but then from the path you can't see the stones, lurking below the innocent looking moss.

Note
slept:2.0 (rest day)

Sore knees keeping me awake last night, then a tiresome afternoon packing. Taking it easy.
