Off-road running 20:00 [3] 2.0 mi (10:00 / mi)
slept:8.0

Warm up / down

Orienteering - training 1:50:00 [3] 6.0 mi (18:20 / mi)

Barr wood o training.

A corridor, window and map memory session. Fun. My body was tired from not warming down yesterday, and my mind was struggling to focus on the job in hand as it was distracted by family stresses. This only added to the challenge of overcoming such distractions. I am better at bearings now, just need to do some more window stuff to add confidence.

Road running 10:00 [3] 1.0 mi (10:00 / mi)
slept:7.0

Park run. Bloody freezing. Frosty.

XC / road / hill race 19:15 [3] 3.0 mi (6:25 / mi)

Edinburgh park run. Heavy frost, so it was slippery and traction could not be guaranteed, but little black ice and no wind which was a bonus.

I didn't take a watch, wanting to run it by feel. I felt good, no tired muscles etc. maybe a bit too good as I wanted faster than the time (which is a guesstimate from another finishers time) and possibly could have pushed harder. To be repeated soon.

Road running 46:00 [3] 5.8 mi (7:56 / mi)
slept:7.5

Heavy bag, hangover, bad stomach, so ridiculously late for picking up the kids. Not fun!
8 PM

Road running 46:00 [3] 6.0 mi (7:40 / mi)

Its been a shit week for training. All of my runs seem to have been rushing here and there with bags on my back, so though I was tired, I wanted to have a fun, relaxing jog. A nice bit of time to myself. Five years ago to the minute I had obstetricians coming at me with forceps and scissors (don't go there girls - Lucy got stuck, her heart stopped, ineeded to get her out quick, etc etc. If you want kids, steal some) but now I was on a nice jog around queens drive, up the Royal Mile to the Esplanade, George IV bridge, meadows and home. Brilliant!

Off-road running 50:00 [3] 6.0 mi (8:20 / mi)
slept:6.5

Oh dear, less sleep again.

Ridiculously windy today. Worst I've seen in Edinburgh. So the 10 miles hard on the canal towpath (breezy at the best of times) was not going to work. I fought through it up to Heriot Watt to run aronud the woodland path there, thinking that it would be more sheltered. The path had been closed though, due to the chance of falling trees. I pay more attention to my personal responsibility than to their corporate responsibility though, so ignored it. It was still v windy, so the going was tough, and the path was flooded in two places. Tried to do the 4.5k loop temp, and managed 21-something.

Road running 40:00 [3] 5.0 mi (8:00 / mi)
slept:7.5

To spire murrayfield and back.
4 PM

Cycle commute 30:00 [3] 2.0 mi (15:00 / mi)

Cycled my bike home along the canal. It was all v iffy until I got past the water of leith, then it was ok. Not sure I am going to risk icy cycling again this winter. All the way home I was weighing up the benefit of the cycle with the chance of broken bones, and thinking how silly I was cycling. Rethink needed.
5 PM

Road running 27:18 [3] 3.8 mi (7:11 / mi)

Portobello prom. Running a bit faster than was necessarily comfortable as I was late getting the kids.

Cycle commute 30:00 [3] 2.0 mi (15:00 / mi)
slept:7.8

Too cold for me and my poor toes this morning. But I had set off before I realised. Its now snowing here. I'm not sure if I'll cycle, run or get the bus home yet.

Really pretty bad back from pushing a car out of the car park at Sunday's xc. I must try to remember quite how lame my back is, and not join in these things.
12 PM

Intervals - long endurance 48:05 [3] 6.2 mi (7:45 / mi)

6 x 4 min with 1 min rec. On the v muddy indeed canal towpath. Probably just over 1 k per rep. Felt good considering my back was aching all morning. Legs felt good. Pleased with it, good to get out. It is always much more fun out there than it looks from your desk :-)
7 PM

Road running 49:05 [3] 6.0 mi (8:11 / mi)

Running home was probably safer than cycling in the snow.

Road running 58:00 [3] 7.0 mi (8:17 / mi)
slept:8.0

To work via an orthopod at spire murrayfield. Feeling 10x better than yesterday.
1 PM

Road running 50:00 [3] 6.2 mi (8:04 / mi)

Home from work. Feeling tired, but I think that's last night's hills.

Rain, sleet, snow, sleet, rain, sun then snow again. All on the way home.
