Road running 44:50 [3] 5.7 mi (7:52 / mi)

Stupefied by exhaustion all day (I need more sleep, please), I wasn't going to go out but revived vaugely late on. Astley ainsley, morningside, myreside, polwarth, Gilmore place and home. All flat-ish, apart from the last bit down minto street. How does that work?

Achilles reactive all day, but only slightly sore and calf ok. Good. Thought it was going to be agony.

Note

Anyone want to head to cambus o may tomorrow from Edinburgh? I want to go orienteering...
11 AM

Road running 1:05:00 [3] 8.13 mi (8:00 / mi)

5.5laps of the meadows then home. I used to be able to so endless laps of the meadows, but got bored quickly with this run. Bit of music needed. Calf sore throughout. Kept remembering what the Dr said. It's not doing any damage - it's just going to hurt. Ouch!

This run is flat, repetitive surface. I has sorbothane in. Mid foot heel strike. Home and iced and iboprufen.

Pace 8:20, 8:06, 8:03, 7:39, 7:37, 7:35, 8:20, 8:47

Tried to pick the pace up in the middle to make it more interesting.

Cycle commute 30:00 [3] 2.0 mi (15:00 / mi)

Competitive fun. Icy for the first time this year though, so I hung back a bit. Got past him anyway as he lost time in the tramworks. Hahaha.
11 AM

Road running 46:00 [3] 6.3 mi (7:18 / mi)

Left work 15 mins early in order to be able to run home and get to Laurence's school in time. Tired, but knew I had to push it to get there in time.

Calf worse than achilles today.

Road running 44:50 [3] 5.6 mi (8:00 / mi)

Was in my running kit as I jogged to school then nursery by the cycling kids. Was just going to run the mile to the bus, but ended up runnig to work instead. I have to run home this evening too, so I'll be nice and crocked by the time I get to the sports Dr. Oh well, it will give hime something to see.
5 PM

Road running 50:00 [3] 6.5 mi (7:42 / mi)

To the drs. Scan showed chronic soleus tear (this is the 10mila damage), and Achilles tendonopathy, and inflamed tendon next to the Achilles.

Plan - slightly different exercises, runs on flat, even surfaces. Lots of steady running. No fast stuff. No hills. Lots of short runs in the day rather than one long run. So still no fast stuff. Sorbothane heels. Ice for 15mins after every run, ibuprofen, and iron levels check reqd (sports drs always say this, don't they!). Keep this up for a month, and see if it helps. Back to physio Wednesday.
7 PM

Road running 15:00 [3] 2.3 mi (6:31 / mi)

Sprint from drs to pick Lozza up at beavers. Fastest run I've done for ages!

Road running 25:40 [3] 3.2 mi (8:01 / mi)

Road run from work. Ouchy but not throbbing so not too annoyed.

The physio has set me up with an appointment for an ultrasound tomorrow with Andrew Murray (not the tennis player) to see what options are available. Got to move on this quick if I want to get some treatment and get over it, if I still want to run EOC and the WOC selection races.
4 PM

Road running 42:50 [3] 5.5 mi (7:47 / mi)

Run from work to nursery. Better than I thought it would be.

Achilles sore walking around today. FFS. How did it get this bad?

Note

Physio did lots of strapping, and some v v painful massage. I know how he works. He gets into some in depth conversation with me in the hope that if I am chatting I can't scream at the same time, so the other clients are not alarmed.

Talked over options with him. One option is HGIVI which is only available from 2 places, both in London, cost approx £500. Other option is taking loads of meds for a short period of time - something a sports doctor he knows does and has had success with. He was telling me that one if his rugby players has had Achilles problems for the past 10 years but has trained through them with 3 lots of successful HVIGI and one unsuccessful, being a Scotland international, going to world cups, and on british lions tours. I then had to point out that surely no scot had been in the lions team in the past 10 years. He was not amused.

Back next Wednesday after he has found out from his sport doc how likely HVIGI is to be successful in the location it is, and about the meds.
9 PM

Road running 46:05 [3] 5.15 mi (8:57 / mi)

Tired, but took a jaunt on the esoc burns night street o score. I thought I didn't need a head torch but there was some pretty hairy off road bits. Fun. Sore Achilles from 20mins in to the end.
