Orienteering - race 1:12:00 [3] 11.5 mi (6:16 / mi)

Jk long. Cold ash.

Ran it in a rather odd way in purpose. Focused totally on technical stuff, so as a result was a bit ploddy, but pretty pleased with how it went. Small misses, but probably not the 5 mins I was down on cat in total. Exhausted now, totally exhausted. Analysis later.

Aforesaid analysis. as i said, i ran it differently than i usually would on purpose. focusing on what i was doing, and not the speed at what i was doing it. interesting to try a new approach, but not getting the usual physical buzz. massively enjoyed trying something new, and got a solid, if not spectacular run out of it. I was not at the jk this year wanting to win, but wanting to get some solid runs in with 100% concentration on me, no distractions with worrying about results wtc. great to see cat's success. She deserves it. What a hard worker she is. I'm striving to get you next time cat! You are inspiring me.

The running felt pretty ploddy and slow. 3 I was going straight, and good, but lost confidence and veered off about 20m before the control and dropped 40 secs. Didn't check direction out of 4 and dropped 5-10 secs, 7 same as 3, was going well, lost confidence when I was maybe 5 metres off and veered the wrong way. 20 secs.

8 didn't read the descriptions right, 10secs.

11, really hesitant 10secs
12 - came out of 11 bad direction and didn't correct soon enough 15secs
13 was really tricky. Wanted to find the path to make it safer but it was not too obvious and hard to find so spent a while trashing around in holly. 30secs
14 again loss of confidence in what I was doing. Just missed it, hut the road and come back. 1min

After this bit I decided I ought to be running a bit faster, and the trickiest but was done, so conciously picked up the pace. Didn't hit 19 directly, 10secs
20 I took in a green forest and stream I neededn't have bothered with that was shitty. 5 secs. 21 racing andy Munro and a bit off line 10secs. 22 still racing andy and he had a different control. Not paying enough attention. Offline. 20.

Then crap bearing to 24. Tired and wanting to finish. 20secs.

This has been a tough few months for me, but I have a lot of ideas as to how to approach the summer races in a better frame of mind this year. I wanted to have fun and I did. I'll take some time out to plan the next few months now. Many thanks to all who have helped me recently. I'd name you but you are all way too modest for that!

Orienteering - race 30:47 [3] 5.6 mi (5:30 / mi)

Jk middle

The plan according to t was to make sure there was a plan. And good compass. And focus on your plan when you see others.

Jittery start. Not much confidence in compass to 1 even though it was right, so hit the brambles and ploughed through.

Not a great direction out of the control to 2 but good

3 I was a bit dithery as I couldn't really decide how to attack it, and ended up in the brambles too much, but the plan was to see the green below, and that eorked well.

Contoured around the top of the green to 4 and in off the veg. Easy

Straight to 5, not great up the hill. Ditto to 6, which I used the veg.

Ditheredon plan to 7, and ended up right of the fence, then up the hill rather than around the bottom, but I was sorely tempted by the lower route. Good in the end though.

8 slow up the hill, 9 good plan - perfect. 10, 11, 12 good compass and plan so fine. Ditto 13. 14 ran through the rough for a bit then up to the track, south of the houses, then up. Rest fine.

I know I said trossachs and Craig a Barnes really suit my technique, but this forest does too and I always run well here. Lots of distinct veg to go off.

I was very relaxed today, and I enjoyed it as much as I can when it was eyeballs out running. Inflamed my sinuses now, just from running in such cold air. Pleased with how I stuck to the plan, and the plan worked well. Slightly different game plan tomorrow. Really don't care how I do, just going to have fun, which is great!

Orienteering - race 13:05 [3] 3.0 mi (4:22 / mi)

Jk sprint

Finally jk time, and the first serious orienteering I have done since world cups. I was ridiculously nervous, as orienteering all got a bit disheartening for many reasons at the end of last year, and this weekend is a real test for me to see if I can enjoy big races. I thought yesterday that if I could only get through today's sprint, I would go into the other races a bit more relaxed, and I am much more chilled tonight so that's a good sign.

The race passed in a bit of a blur, as ever. Time losses came after punching 7, I removed my emit brick from the control and it pung into the bushes, then I really grappled with punching 8, then going to 9 I didn't see that you could get through near the building, so went all the way around the out of bounds. I went west to 11, then tried to run right next to the building the control was on around a bush then came up to an uncross able fence, so went back around. These three cost me 26secs, but I was happy with my position, and happy to be able to put the race behind me.

Didn't stay for the prize giving. Pretty antisocial but am feeling a bit drained just now, and the kids were cold. I am focussing on running the races well this weekend, with as little stress as possible. Prize givings are not of interest to me when there is still running to be done in the forest.
