Orienteering - race 53:00 [3] 5.7 mi (9:18 / mi)
Nearly exactly 5 years ago I was not enjoying orienteering much. ‘Do whatever orienteering you find most fun’ someone suggested, so I did lots of FVO night events. 5 years on and they are still just as fun. Stumbling around in the dark, running courses with more than a mere whiff of ‘arm-chair planning’ with a bunch of other under-trained, ageing has-beens, all assuming/hoping someone else is navigating, until you emerge victorious from the wood an head to the pub.
My downfalls were 6, where I assumed it was Chris Smithard ahead, who was surely competent enough to find the control. Alas it was Will, and he wasn’t, and neither was I, 17 where I made a sprint dead-end error, and 18 where I was just being a bit of a tool. Ahhh. Fun!
