Livi sprint training. Looks like a nice area, from a distance, for a sprint next friday.

Did the scottish national xc champs. Was hoping for a first leg for the b team but was put 1st leg in the a team instead. Was just as well as I was running pretty well. It is a pretty slow 5k course (womens record 17:03-ish) and I am feeling really slow just now so pleased.

Bit of a rush day as I was a last minute replacement at a seminar (institute of fund accountants). It was deadly dull, and I had failed to drink any dc before going in then there was none when inside, stuck in all day. By the end of it I was catatonically tired after 5 hours sleep last night, and had a crashing headache so gave running a miss. Boo!

Jog up the royal mile and around and about. Physio says if we can't get the knee cleared up over the next two months the op (lateral release) might be a good option. I'm not convinced. Doing the excercises like a nutter now tho.

This was going to be a nice lunchtime long run. I forgot to take lozza's swimming stuff to nursery though so the run was edinburgh park - home - nursery - edinburgh park. 13 mile road run. Nice!

Cycle to work and home. the route home was irritating as the nice weather brought out the junkies (wester hailes), teenage mums (sighthill), rowers and coaches (meggetland), young kids on bikes / scooters (shandon) and people walking home instead of getting the bus (polwarth). If i was a moaner i'd call them irritating, but i am not so i won't.

Martin's. 4:26, 4:28, 4:32, 4:36 then i quit the last one. Kitch was pacing it and we started slow and got faster which is the opposite of what i like. I got to the end of middle meadow walk so had done more than half if the last on. What a quitter! Man up!

Hw not the whole way around. It was hot, i was still suffering a little with a sore tummy, legs were tired, i was a bit out of it, so slow.

Not feeling too inspired with orienteering just now. Haven't got a buzz from any of the courses i have done so far this year. this is probably due to my lack of fitness and worribng about my sore knees so not veing able to get going. Need a few nice sol's to sort me out.

British middle. 2mins down on linnea but 1st brit. The whole day passed in a bit of a daze as i felt so shit. Felt horrific when running but was relatively clean. Can't get too excited with the victory as i felt so crap. Also with hollie tess and sarah missing it didn't feel like muxh of a british champs

Time in w/up. British sprint qual. Ran pretty well. caught mairead 1 min early on. Pushing with her. Made a silly mistake and dropped 10 - 20 secs at one point (no 10?) so just cruised after that.

Time inc warm up. Felt not great from the start. Really bad stomach. No really big blunders but scrappy, kept overshooting and having to come back etc. Never really got going as thinking too much. It was a classic crap british sprint race planning - wise. Too many controls, not enough long route choice.

Sprint training round edinburgh. 3 x 1k. Knee pretty sire which was a distraction but no other excuse for my sloppiness. me and toni head to head and he planned the course so it was a bit easier for him. i find oing around the royal mile really irritating as i know it so well i keep assuming what the best route without looking at the map properly. Grr!

New bit of hw path i hadn't noticed before. Legs tired. Didn't eat after intervals last night as i felt ill. That's probably the problem. With strensall map with course on.

Martin's intervals. Long ones. 4:28, 4:28, 4:32, 4:33, 4:35. then 8 x 50m. Don't know where that speed came from but OFY back in business!!! Ok so i had to walk some of the warm up as it was so excruciating, but hey, det racker i alla fall! just have to go and do half an hour of physio so i can stand up tomorrow.

Looking at the results over the weekend, if the ranking points stay as they are i will have got good points for subday. As i staggered up all the hills, and jogged down all the hills, this takes the mickey somewhat. Blue must be the way forward.

Felt rough. Unfit, hot, hilly. Too tired to go up fast, knees a bit too dodgy to run hard down, not really able to run agressively anywhere due to knees. nice area, nice course, one minor wobble. Won the blue. Beat john tullie for the first time i recall. Nice.

Coilie nathas. Middle race. Good fun. I could have done without it being so physical though. Felt totally shocking, but maybe that is just the nature of the terrain. Lovely wood. 1st time there. I did 44, jegor 37, marcus 40, james t 40, jase 42. stopped too soon on the early controls, planning ok, hills felt tough but that's what a lack of training does for you. Planning ok.visulalising and compass were better than normal.

2 x 1.45k (5:33, 5:25) 4 x 1.08k (4:06, 4:01, 4:09, 3:57) w 90secs rec. 8 x 50m. Good to get running but felt dire. Gotta start somewhere. Went through the knee pain in the warm up so was able to run without major pain.

Hw loop. Got sore knee 5 mins in. Got past it. Happy that it is not ligament so i am running on it, atleast until i see the physio tomorrow / orthopod friday. At least i can still run pretty fast, even if i felt shocking fitness-wise

Cycling to / from work. Got the results from my back x-ray. Shows signs of early arthritis. This should be pretty depressing but i can't really be bothered to get upset by it. I reckon physio and iboprufen should get me to woc 2015 if the rest of the body is willing, and after that i cgaf. Got referred to an orthopod re this (tho he won't be able to do anything really) and to see about getting an mri on my knee. Phone up today, appt friday. Doncha just love bupa!

Cycled to work. Seems not all that quicker than runnning, but along the canal so maybe more of a headwind, and maybe a bike suffers more than a runner in headwind. Think i'll add milage / 3 for biking, as i count my training in milage and cv x-training is probably 1/3 as goid as running

After two days off while my knee was worse than ever, hurting when walking, it was much better today so i went for a jog. I aas in aberdour, and did laps of the silver sands playing fields. For the first time in weeks my knee did not do the excruciating pain after 15 mins thing. Not sure whether this is because the run was v slow, was undulating, was off road, was very slow or that i had concentrated on foam rollering out my quads.

5 laps of the meadows and a bit. The agony came and went 15 mins in. by the end my knee was hurting in the bad way that it was on tuesday. Hmm. Feel i am going backwards possibly. Certainly not out of the trees yet, in fact it feels like i am heading back into the woods and doing a bit of a headless chicken impersonation! This run is definately as far as i can get without doing further damage. Taking prufen and icing inbetween diy tonight. Need to get onto toni re gym membership so i can strengthen. Need to massage out the scar tissue too.

Not sure my heart rate dipped much in the rest between the 20 x 1min / 30secs. Felt slow and unfit, but i have had a week off so this is the norm. Did route planning practice between reps. Knee hurt for first 2-3 reps

Sore knee calmed down after 10mins then ok but with a heavy bag so not quick. no cycling this morning as it was icy. Just as well. a cyclist was killed on my cycle ruote this morning after being squished by a cab. Freaks me out a bit.

Finally got a physio appointment today, and now feel confident i have a plan to get over the long litany of injuries that have dogged my winter training. Feeling a lot more positive that come the woc selection races i canbe back to my best. Just a shame the domestic races come so early in the season...

Stayed in campervan somewhere near crail. Woke to sleet, so decided that a 3hr cycle was not going to happen so did the orienteering instead. I knew my knee was going to hurt as it did, about 10mins in. Pleased that it wasn't sooner. I walked jogged until about number 6, then managed to jog the rest, feeling ok by the end. Not sure what i got from it though as i jogged from the start, so hard to say how i'd have navigated if i had gone my usual pace. sprint is easy when you are jogging. At least i didn't waste more entry fees though, and atleast i didn't make things wirse. Physio tomorriw. Majorly distracted by purple dots as closed gates. Didn't see them on the map at all.

Cycled to work via a spine x-ray and home aftwr work. My back has been sore for a year now and is getting worse. I have spent the last month skeeping on a foam matress on the floor. Time to reclaim my life and get it sorted. Googling symptoms seems to imply arthritis. I certainly hope not!
