Road running 35:47 [3] 4.6 mi (7:47 / mi)

Bad stomach, bad bad sleep deprivation, soaring stress levels. Will a run help, or hinder? it helped Massively. Ttft. Must try and get a grip on lack of sleep and stress though. finding time for job, kids and training is tough and the only one i have a bit of flexibiliry in it is the training, but training is the stress relief too and i wouldn't want to go about orienteering in a half hearted way when i am having so much fun.if i get through the next few weeks i'll catch up on sleep at eoc and hopefully things will get easier.

Note
(rest day)

This is an enforced rest day. No time today, and my legs are more stiff than ever before for some inexplicable reason. Stuck 400 miles way from my foam roller. A faffy day planned for tomorrow too so will be hard pushed to get a run in then too. Have to get the car sorted for selling (mazda 3 ts2 2006/06 73,000 miles, w rof bars and sligtly bashed roof box £3,100 ono), and get lucy's room ready for the plasterer. i think i'll have to get up at 5:30...

Road running 1:04:00 [3] 8.5 mi (7:32 / mi)

Wallington so round the houses road run as per usual. hilly in places so those bits were a bit of a fartlek as i didn't was to run downhill hard on asphalt. knee started hurting after about 30 mins. Stopped and did some one legged knee bends to remind the vmo to work and this seemed to settle it down. Maybe this will be the way forward. Running, but stopping exery 10 mins for some exercises. Had to detour via purley tesco to buy socks and pants as i came away without enough...

Intervals - short and speedy 40:00 [3] 5.0 mi (8:00 / mi)

20 x 1min w 30secs rec. Compared to last week was stonkingly fast, and trainers not flats too. Exciting stuff. was a bit depressed when setting off as thought it was going to be sore but i was well strapped up and it was fine. Must have been the vhi selection that inspired me.

Orienteering - training 1:14:00 [3] 6.0 mi (12:20 / mi)

Devilla training. Not as windblown as i thought it might be. Felt fit, strong and fast in the terrain but knee bad throughout.

Cross training 25:00 [3]

Cheered myself up by buying a bike. A very very nice one!
12 PM

Off-road running 46:00 [3] 6.2 mi (7:25 / mi)

Hw. Jogged 46 which was more of an effort last week so moving in the right direction but knee hurt in a slightly different way. Deeply deeply frustrated with it. 3.5months of comprimised training now. Grrrr! Was going to run home but have cancelled that so a long bus ride with smackheads and teenage mums, followed by a long trudge to the nursery. All sorts of fun planned next week cancelled to make way for physio / massage sessions. Fair to say i am a bit pissed off

12 PM

Cross training 45:00 [3]

trying to find more ways to entertain myself cross training. Tried BMF which was pretty good x training but I think I will only be able to make it one day a week so not sure it would be worth it. Legs and arms certainly felt it afterwards.
6 PM

Orienteering - training 40:00 [3] 5.0 mi (8:00 / mi)

Sprintervals, but not feeling too perky, so joggervals would be more accurate. Good o practice all the same though.

Monday Apr 23, 2012 #

12 PM

Off-road running 44:00 [3] 6.3 mi (6:59 / mi)

Hw loop. No watch which was annoying as this was a pb. Felt cumbersome but fast as i got up to hw and around. then hit the canal 20m ahead of some bloke who was going well. Guessed he would be going back to ep with me so put in a kick and stayed ahead. All the way to the end. I got to work and stopped, and he came past and said 'nice pace' and i replied, as nonchalantly as poss 'nice day for it', as tjough i always finish runs at 6min mile pace. Regretting not getting his number as he wpuld have made an excellent training partner.
5 PM

Off-road running 10:00 [3] 1.4 mi (7:09 / mi)

This was going to be much further and much more fun, but for various reasons, was curtailed. Boo!

Sunday Apr 22, 2012 #

10 AM

Orienteering - training 1:23:00 [3] 6.8 mi (12:12 / mi)

Some of toni's turnhouse trainings. Started with one, then swapped to the other one, then stopped when the hangover and hunger kicked in. Longest terrain run all year by a long way (first time over an hour) so decided i have done enough. Home to chaos as ray and the kids are making me a birthday cake. Just had to let ray know that a spatula is not an appropriate utensil for whipping cream...

Cross training (swimming) 55:00 [3] 2.0 km (27:30 / km)

Yuck. Sore back, and it has been better than usual this morning. I'm so crap at swimming i was pleased not to drown

Friday Apr 20, 2012 #

Note
(rest day)

Rest day as a little too crocked. right, the aim is physio exercises twice a day for the next four weeks (i need an end point), so the last set wil be day of the eoc relays, at skavsta airport. Icing too.

Thursday Apr 19, 2012 #

Orienteering - training 49:00 [3] 6.0 mi (8:10 / mi)

My garmin is a bit dead so guessing the distance. Fun sprintervals using royal mile and holyrood. I know the royal mile a little too well now alas. Going to ice the knee later.

It was a day that started at 5:30 when lucy woke me up. I was exhausted and stressed and not looking forward to a day off with the kids as i was so tired. Went to aberdour with them as planned and mum said to go back to edinburgh and she would take care of them. So i did. Ray & i went out for lunch. I went to a bike shop to look at a new bike. I went to a cafe. I read the paper. I got some sleep. it was truly incredibly relaxing. I started the day thinking i was finally going to have a nervous breakdown before the day was out, and i end it totally relaxed! brilliant!

Road running 48:00 [3] 6.0 mi (8:00 / mi)

Run home. Crappy for many reasons but mainly knee, achiles, blisters, foot and headwind.
1 PM

Off-road running 46:00 [3] 6.3 mi (7:18 / mi)

Same as monday. Hw. Nice

Tuesday Apr 17, 2012 #

12 PM

Intervals - short and speedy 22:00 [3] 2.8 mi (7:51 / mi)

This was meant to be 20 x 1min w30secs but ended up 10. something was not working today. Either iwasin trainers and i usually wear flats, or i have a mystery tightness in my back / glutes / hip flexor. It was a fight to get to 10!

Actually i reckon the terrain running is what killed my speed. Gotta minimise it from here on in. Twice a week max.

Off-road running 46:00 [3] 6.3 mi (7:18 / mi)

Hw nice
4 PM

Road running 42:00 [3] 5.6 mi (7:30 / mi)

Run home. Felt ok. Knee had done all the hurting it was going to do on my lunchtime run. Got leave for eoc long and sprint not relay. I have to take it as study days and study there, and my colleagues are going to hate me when they find out, but sod them...

4 PM

Orienteering - training 34:00 [3] 4.0 mi (8:30 / mi)

Jog up to KB and around the scottish sprint champs 2010 mens course. Some whole buildings are now missing... Going to stop being such an orienteering geek and get some 'proper' training done this week.

Saturday Apr 14, 2012 #

10 AM

Orienteering - training 32:00 [3] 3.0 km (10:40 / km)

Allt chellach (?) sprint training. No real mistakes apart from one, but didn't see four of the mini kites. They were pretty faded.
12 PM

Orienteering - training 40:00 [3] 6.0 km (6:40 / km)

Cambus o may training. Map only no compass practice. Fun. Good training as it forces you to look up. Distance and time inc warm up / down
1 PM

Orienteering - training 18:32 [3] 2.4 km (7:43 / km)

Glen davan mass start sprint. me, hector, josh and chris s. Good fun. Hector in sight for 3/4's and chris s only got away at the end.

Friday Apr 13, 2012 #

Note
(rest day)

Took a day off the o-ing and traumatised laurence by dragging him on the rollercoaster at landmark in carrbridge. He sportingly stood on his tiptoes when the man checked his height, then cried the whole trip. Man did i feel like a bad mother!

Getting selected for stuff is a bit expensive. Eoc = £70 accreditation then £40 relay entry and £80 for each other discipline then accomodation, flights, transport, food, petrol and grovelling to get the time off work.

10 AM

Orienteering - training 23:00 [3] 3.3 km (6:58 / km)

Short session in phorp. Lovely terrain except for the felled bits. Feeling good.
11 AM

Orienteering - training 53:00 [3] 8.0 km (6:38 / km)

Phorp. Long training. Good fun but sleeting and i only had an o top on. Bad choice as i was feeling really fresh until i took a road option then my knee was excruciating. My glutes and back were also sore. Walked some bits to let the knee ease which made me really cold. Got around all 14 and pretty interesting terrain to. Hands got too cold to hold a compass so put it in my pocket and did the last 10 without pretty sucessfully.
4 PM

Orienteering - training 1:04:00 [3] 8.5 km (7:32 / km)

Culbin. time inc warm up / down. Loved it. What's not to love? dropped time on one controk thrpugh navigation and a lot of others as i was determined to find the flags which were small and faded. They were always where you thougt they pught to be, just a bit hidden.

11 AM

Orienteering - training 1:10:00 [3] 6.0 mi (11:40 / mi)

Alvie. Time and distance a bit of a guess. Ran up the hill and orienteered down. Brilliant terrain. Great fun. Loved it all.
3 PM

Orienteering - training 35:00 [3] 3.0 km (11:40 / km)

Pretty much a contour only map, with vauge contour detail. Very tired. Orienteering mostly ok. Got to a point where i got so tired my body stopped, and refused to go any further. Walked back.

Off-road running 1:00 [3] 1.0 mi (1:00 / mi)

Warm up
11 AM

Orienteering - race 31:00 [3] 2.8 mi (11:04 / mi)
ahr:161

JK relays. Going ok. Missed number 2 slightly, and route to 8 was dire. Legs were too tired to chase Charlotte down, and Bex was well away. Pleased with 3rd.

Sunday Apr 8, 2012 #

Orienteering - race 1:00:00 [3] 5.0 mi (12:00 / mi)
ahr:161

Jk long

started steady as number 1 was trick. Duffed it a bit (but got fastest split...). still slow and steady around the first 4, went a bit walkabout just after four then headed up to the open fell, where i caught sight of mhairi in the distance. this settled me a bit. Caught her at 6, took a different route to 8 and didn't see her again. wobble at 8, stopped myslef from panicking then lucked out by hitting the control. Steady to 9 & 10 to relax a bit. Caught helen p at 11, was with her at 12 then took a different route to 13 as running with others was just twisting my mellow, man. Then got ahead to 14. duffed 16, 17 then came to the finished shocked to have a great lead! i ended up beating linnea by enough to take the overall lead by 20 secs! brilliant. Loved every second!!!

Saturday Apr 7, 2012 #

2 PM

Orienteering - race 33:58 [3]

Jk middle.

Ditched stacks at number one. Ray always tells me off if i give up a bit tho so fought back. Caught sarah at 3, and she was around me for the rest. She was stronger in the bogs, i was better on the firm. Slow up the hill to 16 as i am so unfit but sarah took a worse route and i got ahead. Managed to keep ahead dispite binning
30 secs being too low at 18. fought back to 3rd so was worth it. Knee really bad after. Craig a barnes suits me better tho. ever since i broke it my hip can't
handle bogs.

2 PM

Orienteering - race 25:00 [3] 3.0 mi (8:20 / mi)
ahr:158

Jk sprint. Knee ok. Problem was choosing to run in fllats on a wet day but this only really cost time at the end and at no 7. Didn't really mind as i couldn't run in my xtalons on asphalt without getting my foot niggle back and any other options are too heavy. My sort of sprint. Not too bushy. Good lines of vision. Not at all confident going into it, so pleased to have been in the mix. Nip and tuck with hollie and sarah the whole way. Not understanding the crossable / uncrossable fence at the 3rd last one cost me lots, and slipping up the bank to the 2nd last one hollie got past me. Good to see her back on form tho. Also NICE ONE MURRAY - FGM!!!

12 PM

Road running 28:00 [3] 3.5 mi (8:00 / mi)

Have a cold but had to post a parcel so ran to corstorphine and had to go home via gyle to get dry cleaning. Running was efficient.
4 PM

Tempo run 34:00 [3] 3.0 mi (11:20 / mi)

Again, have a cold so not exactly ideal, esp just before the jk but you gotta do what you gotta do, and I hadda get some terrain testing done for the sports testing guy and the uni. 3 laps. 7:17, 7:09, 7:08. I am such a mouth breather that the cold didn't bother me that much, and I was glad my legs have stopped aching. I wasn't going for it down the hills as the f*cked knees don't let me, but otherwise was pleased with how I felt. This was good as I can go into the weekend with more confidence in my fitness than I thought.

Had problems downloading the garmin file afterwards. Is sportstracks the one to use if I want to get my AP stats to download automatically? Comments please.

Tuesday Apr 3, 2012 #

8 PM

Road running 30:00 [3] 3.4 mi (8:49 / mi)

Have a cold, felt pretty dire but I knew I would have a bad case of insomnia if I didn't get exercise so went to the meadows for a mooch and 8 x 50m strides.

Monday Apr 2, 2012 #

Orienteering - training 28:00 [3] 2.25 mi (12:27 / mi)

Had a tiny sliver of time to go running today. took a detour to pick the kids up at nursery and parked at the low duckpond carpark at the seat. Up to whinny hill for 2 x reccy of the terrain test loop and w/down. Was running well, esp proud of the run up the hill from the car park. That is one brutal start to a hill. 2.25 miles does not do it justice. Nice cool day, could have run forever (but the nursery would be dropping the kids off with social services...)

I have either a cold or an allergy. Totally exhausted.

Sunday Apr 1, 2012 #

Road running 50:00 [3] 6.0 mi (8:20 / mi)

To and from Steils

Orienteering - training 19:00 [3] 2.66 mi (7:09 / mi)

Steils o training. Fun. I felt very weary and think I am coming down with something. Waiting to see if it is the kids cold or Ray's fatigue virus.
