L Foot, Impact wound / trauma

2010-05-01 – 2014-04-08

Grade: 3

Banged foot during the BOC classic (PBs/no insole). Sore at the finish and in the relay, but didn't notice once running. From then afterwards, unable to put heel to floor for a week. No discolouration: bruise? fracture? who knows.

Jon X threatens it with plantar fasciatis. Never had that before, but sounds awful. InternetDoctor suggests PF is very sore in the morning and eases with stretching, and may be delocalised. None of that fits.

Spoke to some doctor types: pretty certain its a calcaneus crush fracture. Careless tiptoe/brufen run at Calder Wood, generally can't weight bear.

After 4 week, run M45 at Scottish Champs. Still v.sore, and not weightbearing on the heel, but able to run on forefoot. Accidental heelstrike alleviated by soft terrain. No obvious negative consequences.

After 8 weeks, ran US Champs with no problem. Still sore to run or walk a long way on roads. ADL #2

After 10 weeks. Still achey and sore, down to a #1

3 years on, I'm taking the recovered off this. Low level pain in exactly the same spot for no obvious reason.

Recovered back on again. Assume this is going to be a permanent and very minor niggle

All that seemed to work was waiting. Very long period of mild irritation at the end, especially running on hard surfaces. Wearing proper shoes during the day aggravated things.
