L Knee, Other

2007-02-10 – 2007-06-13

Grade: 2

My left knee hurts, mostly in the tendons/muscles behind the knee and toward the medial side. It seems more like lower hamstring than upper gastroc, but it's hard to tell. I've also had some burning pain near the surface on the medial side of the joint, between my gastroc and vastus medialis, usually at different times from the behind-the-knee pain. And I've had some occasional slight aching just below and to the outside of the kneecap (where I had pain a while after my impact injury in September). Anyway, I'm not sure if all these pains are related.

Given that the knee didn't hurt during my extensive hiking/running sessions while course setting for the Salmon La Sac Rogaine, nor during the Goat race on June 16, I think it's time to call it recovered. It did hurt a bit again on June 23, when I put too much strain on it doing something, but it felt better the next day, so at this point, I think it's going to be just old-injury pain. I'm pretty sure the injury was caused by all the skate skiing at the Sierra Ski-O Week, followed by one/some fast hill running workouts and a generally heavy training load in early February. It was a sensitive injury, with delayed pain and inflammation a day or two following exercise, and it took lots of off-days in a row to heal it.
