Boulder Dash: Blue day 1

jjcote

1. Running early, with a cell phone so that I could call in to report and problems with damaged controls or whatever. Attacked from the boulders south of the control.
2. +02:00Lost contact, wound up 100 m or so SW of control, but figured it out when I went uphill.
3. +02:00Got a little bit stupid once I got on top of the hill, and wandered around.
4. +01:00Kinda dumb route, too far to the left.
5. +00:30Sheesh, I even screwed this up! Ernst Linder (on Red) catches me.
6. +01:30Got to the circle okay, then checked behind every little bump.
7. +02:00Contoured on the right of the line, then blew the attack from the trail bend w/wall and bounced back out to the trail. Ernst shows up again and screws it up as well.
8. Did this one okay!
9. This one too!
10. +02:00I know this area... sort of, but it didn't help. Thought I'd recognize the dented knoll just NE of the circle (WC'92 control location), but I wound up too far to the SW and had to come back.
11. +01:30Went by the WC'92 control that I had manned, but then got too far north, near skinny lake, and fishhooked around.
12. +15:00Hooooo boy! Decided to just blast through the complicated stuff to Mymeeba Pond, and attack from the tip. But my brain wandered away, and I wound up at the next pond south, trying to make the map fit. When I figured out what I had done, I felt like big tractor beams were trying to keep me from getting back to where I needed to be.
13. +04:00Talk about inattention! This route wasn't so bad... except that it went just south of Incredible Pond!
14. Not bad, I think... though I really can't recall this leg.
15. Took the shortcut by the lake, through the #^$&* knee-breaking beaver stumps.
16. +00:30Pretty much straight... and I got a phone call from the meet director asking where the heck I was. (And this rattled my concentration.)
17. +00:15Phone rings again... connection is really bad. Drift too far left.
