Race Evaluation

Orienteering Winter Weekend: Lane 1

jgran

1. I immediately ran off without looking at my map (because I knew the direction from previous runners) and by the time i located myself on the map, i was past the most direct road/route. Then, to make up for lost time, I ran faster and ended up running past the control and needed to double back. Poorly done control. One minor mistake.
2. I followed the road to the wall and decided to just jump down instead of go all the way around. It was a useful shortcut but caused unnecessary contact with a couple of nasty thorns... Past that, it was pretty easy road/trail/stairs/parking lot.Used that last parking as my final A.P. and saw a group around the control. Made up for lost time here. No big mistakes.
3. I started running the long way around the parking lot (South along the wall) for a bit before i realized and just jumped down and cut across the parking lot to the east. Once there, I cut across the field and between the buildings. Again, the point was relatively easy to spot and there were people around it. No big mistakes.
4. Here, I was familiar with the area and simply ran to where I saw the point on the map. Once there, i realized i never looked at the clue, but it was just at the bottom of the stars and easy to follow. No big mistakes.
5. This was one of the longer splits but very straight forward and easy to follow roads. Getting to the point was easy and i chose the correct times to cut across the open sections. I got distracted by other runners and ended up running past the point and going to the other side of the building when I read my hint to say it was on the West instead of East side (holding folded map upside down...). Eventually, i realized my mistake and corrected, finding the point in a little alcove type thing i overlooked before. This was a large mistake.
F. Again, straight forward running down the roads.
