Race Evaluation

Compass Sport Cup Final: Brown

AngusL

1. +04:00Overshot control #1 to #9 losing about 3-4 minutes. This is a relatively common error for me - I need to work on estimating distance).
2. Nailed 2 running along the ridge to the mini col.
3. Spiked.
4. Spiked, good attackpoint. Down the slope and the edge of the field to the wall corner and then down the track.
5. +02:00Could have done better, choosing to go straight rather than following an intermittent trail slightly to the west, and this time underestimating distance.
6. Flew up to #6.
7. Went north of the vegetation to join a track to #7, having been slowed and tired by thick bracken in recent BAOC events. Nailed 7.
8. Good navigation to #8. Down track, up onto ridge, dropped to clearing to pick up track and then gulley.
9. Fast revisit to #9.
10. +02:30Hesitated on gated exit onto the moor from #9, as many others did I believe. Chose to run on the path north and east rather than through the heather - it works well for me as I feel my pace is quite good at the moment and it helps my confidence, but I suspect it cost me a little time, although I did take two people #10-11.
11. Good approach staying high to keep visibility of the control, beating two people who were 25m ahead of me on the run in.
12. A boulder in a field. Was heading too far west/uphill by about 25m. Not a major issue.
13. Long run up a path, with a good attackpoint from the footbridge and gate. Pleased with final approach.
14. Better line in than the guy ahead of me, cutting diagonally up from the wall nearby field wall attackpoint.
15. Track to road crossing.
16. Road crossing.
17. Straightforward navigation, and spiked the control.
18. Spiked this without realising it. Standing about 2m above it, 1m away obscured by a crag. Control description could have been clearer?
19. +00:30Good route choice, but concentration drifted at the end and I ended up on the wrong control about 100m away. Relocated quickly.
20. Fine, although I ended up slightly west/below the control.
21. Spiked
22. Spiked. Pleased with my route choice, navigation and attackpoint.
23. +01:00Pace starting to flag and I hesitated with no clear attack point. Getting in amongst other runners for the first time since #15 restored my concentration.
24. Straight in, good spot from distance.
25. Spiked.
26. Spiked.
27. +01:00Hesitated slightly when I didn't get far enough west round the corner and then home.
28. Easy.
F. Sprint in.
