Anza Borrego Desert O-Fest 2006: Team Fundraiser Sprint

Charlie

1. I could see Sharon and Gail up ahead, so the route was pretty easy. Caught about halfway up to Gail
2. +02:00Tried to angle over to spur with trail, but got on one spur to soon. Saw bag at the top and ran to it, but it was an A meet bag. Ran past a bit before looking back and seeing Gail heading down the correct spur. By then Dick Neuberger had caught up, and Rhonda not far behind.
3. Up and around on the rim. Catching up to Sharon, who apparently went lower. Gail was with me. On the way out, Dick and Rhonda not far behind. Stopped to tie bag on.
4. On the rim for a while, then cut the corner. A younger fellow who was pretty fast passed here.
5. Straight, reading it pretty well.
6. Following the younger guy. He's a little erratic, but fast enough to stay ahead.
7. Drifted a little south, before correcting, and Sharon caught up.
8. +02:00In front and headed down the gravelly spur. Looked too soon and didn't see it where I wanted it. Saw the fast guy off to my left and got stupid, running left and long, before turning back to see Sharon, Dick and Rhonda punching in.
9. Hustling along behind the fast guy, keeping him in sight. Along here j-man showed up, moving smartly.
10. Behind j-man. Drifted a little low, but it looked fine when we got to the right area and I was in ok contact.
11. Stayed well left of #1, which the fast guy went to check out. A little extra climb because I stayed to the straight line.
12. Hopped over one spur then straight down. I could see the finish line, so knew where I was.
F. I just ran to the chair. The marked finish was further down the spur, and it was interesting to me later to see some folks run past the chair down to where the "real" finish line was. Obviously reading their maps better than I was.
