Race Evaluation

Texoma: Day 2 Red

Cristina

1. +02:00In typical first control fashion, took a stupid route (more or less straight through all the crap).
2. Aimed a little right and hit it, though hesitant.
3. +00:30Fast trail route, but then ended up right of the control. Where's the road that I heard? Map ends awfully close to control location...
4. +00:30Tried to ignore all the confusing trails through the semi-open stuff in the middle, with moderate success. Then proceeded to jump into a ditch before the stream with the control.
5. Successfully kept full concentration and read map while running...on a rather simple leg.
6. For the first time on the map actually picked off rock features!
7. +01:00Contoured through the open-ish stuff to the trail and through the open batch at the other end. Fence would probably have worked better. Sad thing is, spent a long time thinking!
8. +06:00Just ran to the "corner of the hill" and made it there, just way too low. That's a not a good strategy. Ran back and forth before going up, crossing over a turtle carcass twice (the same one!)
9. +00:30Again picked off small features, but didn't use them to move lower on the hill. So a little high, but not much.
10. +02:00Very "creative" route choice here, I was fed up with green terrain. Dropped down to the shore of the lack and then back up a stream to the open. Almost dropped down a cliff to get there (I was desperate).
11. Followed fence-line, and it was slow going. No better choice, except to move faster. ;-)
12. No problems, though some luck here with all the bends in the stream.
13. +01:00Tore out of the last leg to get away from the crowd, successfully, then ended up to the right of the control, pulled away by the track. No problem once I moved over.
14. Jumped over towards the fenceline near the "white", but fell way short. No biggie.
15. Straightforward, mostly just a bit of a climb.
16. This is where I realized that the map was 1:10000, not 1:7500 like yesterday...
17. Why did this take so long? I have no idea.
F. Felt better than yesterday, but still sloppy. Need to learn better management of scraggly texas terrain.
