Race Evaluation

US Intercllegiate Champs, Day 2: Blue

EWhite

1. Hesitated out in clearcut.
2. +05:00Lost contact with map without realizing it and pulled up short on major parallel ridge to south. After some exploration, relocated but made parallel error and went up reentrant to west. Relocated off trail fragment.
3.
4. +00:15Didn't look at cluesheet or circle very carefully - thought I was looking for a reentrant at first.
5. Caught by eventual winner going through green. He slowed to look at map and reentrants to east and my slow steady progress took me into control just ahead of him.
6. I agree with Peter that swinging wide to run the open woods seemed slow.
7. +00:10More failure to look closely at circle. I pulled up within sight of saddle, while inspecting the reentrant.
8.
9.
10. +00:15Went straight west up on spur, then corrected.
11. Ran ridgetop through burn with some initial thrashings through undergrowth a few yards east of ridgetop.
12. +03:00Straight south to tank trail, then planned route while running. Veered right of planned route, and made large parallel error while running 500m of green to stream junction in sight of road.
13. Legs gone.
14. Ran straight into green despite plan to run around to left.
15. +00:20Caught by Greg Balter, and Ben Vytenis (on Red) and we all went too far left and had to skirt around the green.
16.
