Race Evaluation

US Intercollegiate Champs, Day 1: Blue

EWhite

1.
2. +01:30Thought I did OK, but splits suggest otherwise. Perhaps too much time planning and certainly too much time clawing through deadfall and thickets.
3. +00:10Made parallel error - took wider reentrant to east of intended route. Relocated quickly once over saddle.
4.
5.
6. +04:00Planned straight approach but couldn't follow a bearing and subsequently lost contact with map. Felt I was too far right, corrected than relocated off navigation stake on broad hilltop to east. Again wandered off bearing and relocated from stake downstream from control.
7. +01:00Poor route choice (north of direct line - intending to use trails and attack off spur NW of control). Not confident in location until after crossing road.
8. +02:00Tried to outrun another competitor and didn't plan. Pushed left by green to navigation stake. Lost contact with map within 100m of control.
9. +00:20Poor planning took me through green reentrants unnecessarily. Finished well.
10.
11. +01:30Planned to go straight across ridges. More bearing problems took me NW to rockpile in first major valley. Some hesitation along visibly nonexistent vegetation boundary approaching control.
12. +01:00Left #11 in wrong direction (to hilltop to west)
13. Around south edge of hilltop, then through diggings, eating green the whole way.
