Boulder Dash: Red Day 2

TimGood

1. E on trail then N on the other trail and straight from the bend. Past the depression and the green and straight in. Surprised to see Peggy who started a few minutes ahead.
2. Straight. Still with Peggy.
3. Think there is a problem with my map when I see the line to 3 disappear at the edge, then realize it turns at the road. Feel a bit guilty as I run away from Peggy on the road run. I may not be a great navigator but I am pretty good on the roads. Cannot decide on the best place to cut in and leave the road earlier than I should. To much woods, should have cut at last moment.
4. Legs looks risky and I consider going low and hitting the trial. Instead stay high and use the private property and stone walls to keep track of position. Goes smoothly and when I reach the trickly, the control is easy.
5. +04:00Get overconfident. Use the trail to get to the high ground and run along the edge expecting to see the rocks and drop into the control. Eventually do only the control is between two cliffs, not two boulders and Randy comes and punches it. I've overshot by 150m. As I go back, Peggy and Kris go by on the way to 6.
6. +03:00Was not paying attention and went past the bend where I meant to cut off. At the jct 200m later I realized my mistake and attacked from there.
7. Mostly straight but could see the small pond along the way. Saw a small snake while climbing. See Peggy and Kris leaving the control as I head in.
8. Straight, figure I will see either the rocks, the control, the water or Peggy/Kris. Catch up with Peggy and see the water. No Kris. Takes a moment for me to realize it is the small first water and I am a little short. If I had not seen the water and paused, I would have spiked it.
9. Run hard to drop Peggy. Use the green patches and contours along the way to try and keep straight. Get lucky and come out just W of the knoll.
10. Take a careful bearing so I do not blow what looks to be an easy but risky leg. Still end up to far N as it is clear I am crossing the knolls. Know the control should be below in the reentrant but do not see it. Drop down and still miss it, come back from the rocks and see it this time.
11. Run hard to the trail and cut in just past the stone wall. Do not see the trail by the water which would have been the best route. Just go straight. Lose some time when the water is not as visible in the light green as expected and I start looking to early.
12. +01:00Thought the bridges were going to be marked on the map. Think there is one NW but decide to go S around the water. Think I crossed near there yesterday. Did not notice the trail climbed uphill when picking the route. I was farther S yesterday where the trail is flat. Crossing is ok and slow uphill to the control. Other way would have been better.
13. +01:00NW to stone wall then trail to clearing edge. Stone wall then trail and cut in from the bend. Rocks did not match up right and I thought I was at the upper rocks and dropping down to the control. Instead I was at the correct rocks and dropping to those SW. Had to climb back up which wasted any time saved by running the trail instead of cutting from the bend.
14. +02:00Another poor route choice. Could not decide on which way to go and kept hesitating at each jct. After passing the N edge of the clearing, for some reason chose not to go W and then along the stone wall but instead went N on the trail then straight from the bend. At least there were no more decisions to make. Spiked the control but lost a bunch of time on the route choice.
15. Down to trail and straight from the bend.
16. S around the water. See Peggy headin toward 15 as I go around.
17. Straight but drift N and hit the stone wall jct and hesitate. Passed by two people.
F. Reasonable hard but no killer sprint to try and win the run in. With an 88 a few seconds wont make much difference.
