Race Evaluation

Colorado 5-Day: US Night-O Champs: Red

tdgood

1. This was the same crappy map that remember running on several years ago. You know what, it was still just as crappy.Got close to the circle and couldn't tell anything.
2. Ran a careful straight line ignoring everything else.
3. Followed the fence to the reentrant by the green. Of course. apparently I ran down the unmpapped reentrant by the unmapped green. Floundered. Ran out the trail and took a bearing from the trail bend. Hit the fence (Damn map). This time ignored the bearing and just triangulared distance from fence and trail and hit control.
4. Trails. Started down wrong trail. Came back. Took trail to trail bend due north of control. Still ended up a little left.
5. Straight lined it. Was right on course crossing the trail north of control. I was having troubles running across the fields that aren't on the map. This was the same #*$*#* area that was bad last time. Floundered around and eventually saw a control.
6. This should have been a gimme. I got to far right. After wandering around I hit the "indistinct" jeep trail. Despite its size I figured what it was and ran the trail bend. Oh, there is no trail bend in on the map so I figured I had run off the end. Guess again. Gave up on the trail and wandered around some more. Saw people at a control and ran over to it. It was mine.
7. Remember this area from before. Ran down big reentrant to control.
8. straight
9. straight
10. straight, then trail
11. ran into unmapped fence pile at full speed. I got all tangled up in it. Luckily it wasn't barbed wire. Control was rock but couldn't even see rock on the map at night.
