Race Evaluation

NEOC Wolf Den: Green

jjcote

1.
2. Nice leg, making us read the contours and not get spooked by the porous green.
3. Along the marsh, under the long cliff, then came up the spur just north of the green reentrant the control was in, to avoid the laurel, Kind of hooked into this from the back in order to stay out of the bushes. George Walker arrived at almost the same time, but I never saw him again.
4. A few steps too far to the right, then corrected and went just south of the line, busting my way down the green slope at a narrow spot. Lacked confidence climbing the hill to the control, but it appeared when I hoped it would.
5. I'm not a stickler for this sort of thing, but general guidelines would consider this to be a poor control: a pit and a dogleg. Ran with no difficulty to the circle, but had to wander around to fing the flag down in a hole in the ground.
6. Slightly to the right of the line, popping out on the big trail at the junction that forms the loop. Past the outhouses, and went too far right, finding the north wall first, and went CCW around the laurel patch.
7. NW to marsh, followed it across road, came pretty close to stone wall out in the white. Continued and saw prominent spur up to my right.
8. Nice leg, looked challenging, but turned out to be not so bad. Kept finding myself drifting to the left, and had to keep smacking myself in the left cheek to stay on course. Final attack from the north end of the marsh. Brendan and William cruised by, doing some other course.
9. Didn't see the rock, even though I passed just above it, and did a quick about-face when I hit the trail.
10. Left of line, ran for a few steps on the trail at the bend, then caught the second trail low and crossed the reentrant below the bridge.
11. Straight.
F. Not a tough enough guy to run an extra course like many people seem to have done.
