Race Evaluation

West Point Day 2: Red Y

1. Lacked confidence
After yesterday, I'm not taking any chances on C1, so it's the road for me baby.
2. Slow but perfectly straight
3. Did not check features en route
Overshot (went too low)
4. Did not check features en route
Bad compass work
Confused parallel features
Followed WAY wrong branch of stream, didn't realize it until I was running parallel to hill below start; painfully slow recovery
5. Bad route choice
Lacked confidence
OK, better play it safe again - head out to big clearing, to road, to small clearing for trivial attack point
6. Lacked confidence
Took my time going by all the huge boulders on the way
7. Hesitated
Unused to terrain
Didn'texpect so much junk in so many places in the rough open land
8. Tired
Too tired to do anything but walk up the hill
9. Hesitated
This time I knew to run parallel to the posted signs
10. Tired
Too much walking uphill
11. Bad map reading
Lacked concentration
Stopped to pull the thorns out of my face (some "clearing") - affected the rest of the route
12. Bad compass work
Angled a couple of contours too high - not good when the legs are wearing out
13. +01:00Yes, I know it's too late to bother drinking anything else, but those 3 cups of water sure went down easy... (but where's the beer when you need it?)
14. Wow! Some trail running???
15. Almost home
F. I know I didn't MP today!
