Race Evaluation

DVOA Mt Joy: Blue

Wyatt

1. Up. A little tiny bit hesitant as I couldn't see the little fence square, or which rootstock was mine until ~20meters away.
2. +00:20Started around right, then turned up to the top, down the ridgeline, hit trail then a little hesitant to drop off the trail
3. +00:30Contour around, with a little climb (bad route?), plus a little hesitant (slow map check) on the way in.
4. Up, left down road, and down, nailed.
5. Pushed down by veg., then a little hesitant on the way in.
6. Contour out hard, left of cliff, push down across field. I knew others would be pushing hard too.
7. Knew this spur. Contoured, dove in near depressions and down reentrant to spur.
8. Up and around right this time, bombed down reentrant and then out to the rocks
9. Up right of line to trail, cut off trail before it hit the junc. near the field and beelined in.
10. Contoured slightly down and then went straight in with a little hestitation near end.
11. Hard rough bearing, but again thinking about where I'm going (along the edge) took a few seconds.
12. +00:10Contour out to road, then up - should've stayed up road in forest to whiter bit (10s), down through field around bottom and in.
13. Aimed straight, corrected at road crossing and even pace counted on way down - but it turned out to be pretty visible.
14. Contoured out, cut in, up toward top then turned right toward correct 'back' of hill.
15. Out along hilltop, to trail for a bit, then diagonal to field-line, read tree clumps, and into bag.
16. Contoured out, then stayed high on bike path and dropped down from the top of the forest clumb.
17. The bogey. Went right, down road, contoured around, but didn't contour high or far enough see the trail that went down to 17. Dropped through clear anyway, saw a cliff & bag to my right and figured it was probably 18. Contoured toward where 17 should have been but got pushed down and kept looking but couldn't see 17. Tried to look for the lower trail that led up to 17. Couldn't find it, dropped even closer to road to try to see the rough shape. Still thought I should see the trail (I should have, it's gone...) Finally angled up toward where 17 should be, hit right contour, and saw it even farther along hillside. Amazing how distances along that hillside seem so much longer due to the difficultly of movement across it.
18. Contoured back, pushed down a bit, but knew where I was going and climbed back up to 18.
19. +00:15Climb up and out, and didn't follow trail for a bit like I should have (I crossed it and then went 1/2 btwn the road & trail all the way into the bag.)
20. Along the trail all the way to the reentrant and drop down reentrant, looking on left side.
21. Up a little left, down trail almost to 'major' trail, then diagonal in.
22. Contour to road, up road, cut corner, along road, and bomb down in diagonally to 22 (could see it from the road.) Vadim must've been really motoring, as I beat Randy and tied Mihai, but was still 21 seconds behind.
23. Straight - tied Vadim & Mihai
24. Out to the road, then straight in/contouring, hit trail above, ran it to junction, then bearing in.
25. Up to the trail, down along the field. Again, I think Vadim way flying here, as I beat Mihai & Randy, yet Vadim was 24 seconds ahead!
F. Wow Vadim's fast. It didn't even look that fast when I watched him in the chute. Very smooth...
