Race Evaluation

: Bald Hill

jeffw

1. Oops. Put the wrong park name. Should be Chip Ross. Had a hard time finding the start triangle. Was surprised the control was on the right side of the trail. Need to read more carefully.
2. Ran up the main trail, then cut over to the smaller trail. Tripped and did a face plant into some blackberries. Picked out thorns for the rest of the race.
3. Started off going straight, but could see a sea of blackberries, so bailed to the trail. Went way to high past the control, so lost some time.
4. Straight to the control.
5. Went around the end of the blackberries. Cut through the dark green at the white patch of forest. A better route would have been the trail crossing south. Didn't see this during the race. Ran to the marsh and followed it to the control. Overshot a little.
6. Followed the indistinct trails perfectly to #7 where Andy was taking pictures. As I was about to punch I realized that I needed to get #6 first. Tried to take a straight shot at #6, but thought the reentrant south of the control was correct. It wasn't. Realized that I was in the wrong spot and made the correction.
7. Figured this would be easy since I was here once already. Was too far to the right, so lost time.
8. Followed the indistinct trail south. Crossed the stream on the main trail right into the control.
9. Followed the fence to the end of the blackberries, then took the trail until I could cross the dark green in white forest.
10. Went NW until I could cross the green then slogged up the hill to the control.
11. Took the trail as close as I could get then made the steep climb to the control.
12. Went north around the green blob. Crossed the reentrant, then climbed to the trail. Used the rock as my attackpoint. Spike!
F. Down to the trail. Was careful running down the muddy trail.
