1. +00:40I followed the trail but got on the northern one. As I got near the formline reentrant, I cut SE and climbed. I paused partway there to read the map instead of running wild. It was enough to head me further to where I could see it and slog up.
2. Over the hill and down to the lake, I approached up the reentrant. I cut up the spur and was surprised not to see it. The description did say on the south side but the circle was drawn on top.
3. Across the reentrant, up, down the next reentrant on the left side. I could see it before crossing the next reentrant.
4. +00:10I followed the big reentrant around to the left then cut right up another reentrant to the slash. I paused not seeing it but went a few steps more and saw it.
5. Mostly straight but reading off the knoll and forked reentrant as I went...
6. A little left of straight, then up on the right side of the reentrant/spur to the control. Others were punching too.
7. Left of the line on the ridge then drop right, into the control.
8. Staying high, I partly contoured around the first reentrant. I sprint in at the end to beat out two others who were climbing up the reentrant from below.
9. +02:20I analyzed routes while two others came and went. Worried about waiting too long, I charged down and decided to go down reentrants to the trail and use the road in a BIG S route. while nearing #3, I decided this was too long around so I angled up. I cut left in the direction of the control crossing ridges and valley's to the the stream then up to the road. I didn't read well along the way and had to make a correction before getting to the road a little right of the big bend that is well left of the line. I slogged up the road and around the bend counting the reentrants on my right to a minor bend. I could see the control from there.
10. N of the line over a hill top to the saddle then along the ridge on bearing to the next knoll.
11. +00:15Over the knoll then downish to the forked reentrant and up. I got a bit too far right but corrected as others in the area clued me in.
12. Following what seemed like an old road on the ridge, I cut right into the reentrant. I noticed an Army runner ahead and watched as he headed to the same control.
13. Down the reentrant, I chased after the Army runner. I didn't want to push too hard as I was already feeling out of shape and tired. I gained as he stopped. We ran together running over the ridges and following reentrants. We walked up the last ridge a bit. I got ahead as the Army runner cut left to the ruined building.
14. +00:15Having decided part of my route on the way to #13, I got out of there fast and got more ahead of the Army runner. Following the road a little then cutting up to the ruins I learned later that the Army runner decided to go around the hilll via the lake. I went up to the saddle then up the big hill to the ridge. I got a little past the control before deciding to cut down. As I did, I saw others coming from my left to my right. Dropping a few steps I could see the knoll they were headed to and was glad it was my control.
15. I caught Mike Minnium at #14 and together we slipped and slided down--memories of Wyoming were in my mind. I cut right at the creek going almost to the cliff so that I could get to a place I could jump the creek and stay dry--I did. I cut into the green woods immediately after crossing the trail but got caught in thorns. I jumped back and found the trail was parallel to my route any way. I went on until I could see the control the cut left from there with Mike still right behind me.
F. I was tired but tried to make a decent effort and put some time between me and Mike. Finished, I felt good about my run. I kept my errors down much more than my other runs last year.
